Bit of a knee jerk reaction by derby or not as one of longest serving managers in the FL gets the bullet! I must say its a decision that surprised me as he has worked with limited budget and has worked on overhauling whole club from grass roots up ,was always going to take time , but obviously that time ran out today! what do fellow Horns think?
As I said on the other thread, I was surprised. He showed at Burton that he can build a club, not just a team, but it took him quite a long time. It depends on what the owners of a club want I suppose. A solid well run club, or one that is in the must have glory camp.
Anyone like to guess who is the longest serving Championship manager now? It is not that long. As a secondary question where does GFZ stand in the league table?
Seems harsh and rather sudden. Presume Derby must have somebody lined up and were waiting for a bad run.
Derby Clough 06/01/2009 Middlesbrough Mowbray 26/10/2010 Charlton Powell 14/01/2011 Leicester Pearson 15/11/2011 Yeovil Johnson 09/01/2012 Sheff Wed Jones 01/03/2012 Birmingham Clark 26/06/2012 Watford Zola 07/07/2012 Bournemouth Howe 12/10/2012 Bolton Freedman 25/10/2012 Burnley Dyche 30/10/2012 Ipswich McCarthy 01/11/2012 QPR Redknapp 24/11/2012 Nottm Forest Davies 07/02/2013 Huddersfield Robins 14/02/2013 Blackpool Ince 18/02/2013 Reading Adkins 26/03/2013 Leeds McDermott 12/04/2013 Barnsley Flitcroft 09/05/2013 Doncaster Dickov 20/05/2013 Blackburn Bowyer 24/05/2013 Millwall Lomas 06/06/2013 Wigan Coyle 14/06/2013 Brighton Garcia 26/06/2013 The above list shows I think what a short shelf life you can expect as a Championship manager.
Sorry OFH didnt see another on the list , I dont visit often now , the other thread wasnt strikingly obvious .
So only 6 managers longer serving than GFZ now and of those 5 teams occupy 5 of the bottom 7 places in the division so all may be considered "at risk"
I don't think the Derby fans have been too happy with Nigel Clough for a while, they have their high points (beating us last year was one) but these are few and far between, as their expectations are probably far too high as a former league champion, a bit like their neighbours Forest's really.
Sounds like a done deal. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24326959 Why do some of these guys keep getting employed?
McClarens rediculous 'Dutch accent' is the most laughable thing, to think he was England manager makes me sick: Poor Derby fans. I'd be devistated IF he ever came to the Vic as manager.
Steve McCLaren is famous for being a bad manager of England, even if he did better than GT, and some success with Middlesborough. He is a ex-Derby County player as well.
