Yes it was a vague summarisation by me. However he brought nothing at all to the game and was a passer by...Lamela is what we needed to make a clever pass or two. Paulinhio was losing possession far too much and they were by passing the centre circle for every attack... We needed Sandro on to put a stop to the wave of attacks. This is not hindsight thinking...I thought this during the match.. What was AVB's thinking?
What do you think about Torres grabbing Vertonghen's face earlier in the game? Or his blatant trip on Vertonghen? Or his diving? Or his repeated dissent? They're all bookable offences, they all happened earlier - four wrongs don't make a right. By the way, the finger-pointed to try and deflect attention away from what your players got up to is more of a Man Utd thing. Work out which set of fans you want to sound like, and stick to it.
Good post. As it happened, today there were plenty of unfortunate things from both sides. Torres didn't deserve the sending off he got, but did deserve one (or was it two?) earlier. Punishing diving retroactively, through video replays is clearly the way to go, so I'm not at all surprised that UEFA and the FA aren't going that way. It would really improve the game by forcing the players to play less cynically. Finally, I couldn't agree more that what we need even more than that is that the rules, whatever they are, are enforced as well as possible. I am so sick of the well, it wasn't a blatant shirt pull, so it's not a pen. What the hell is a blatant shirt pull? What the hell a shirt pull is isn't necessarily always crystal clear, but it's a hell of a lot clearer than what a blatant shirt pull is. Enforce the rules, whatever they are. Use video to correct mistakes, maybe retroactively, maybe at the time.
What a great day so far Spurs TOP of the table, West Ham 'the club that's as big as Spurs' - trademark West Ham fans - lose AGAIN So that's well over 100 years in our shadow, at least since 1901 and probably before that, yet still they are 'on our level' How I hope they get relegated AGAIN, apart from Spurs winning trophies and getting CL, nothing will give me more pleasure
Nice to see the media buying Mourinho's usual bullshit tactics and going with whatever he wants the top story to be. Arseholes. Talk about Vertonghen and whether Torres should've gone, not the previous offences that he should've already been sent off for.
Just back and wanted to mention the unfortunate incident high in the North stand in the first half, where someone clearly had a heart attack. The medical staff evacuated 3 rows of fans and sent them down to the concourse to watch the game on the TV's whilst they worked to save the guy. There were a good dozen staff trying to revive him and after 10 minutes or so he was stretchered away. It didn't look promising for him, so fingers crossed he is able to survive and return to full health.
Evening, people. Pending MoTD, how did the guys play today ?? 5 yellows is not pleasing, and it seems Verty and Torres were handbags all game (only heard the last 15 ish mins on the radio) .
To be honest mate a few of us have been talking up Sandro and wanting him to start this game and we was told Paulinho is the best thing since sliced bread. Funny as Sandro shouldn't have started because he wasn't ready apparently but the players who apparently where ready made alot of mistakes. Dont get me wrong I rate Paulinho but lets not make him out to be a superstar.
I think this game was played at a tempo far above any of our previous league games and both Paulinho and Soldado had their first "real" experience of the PL and English football today. Whilst both players did show signs of their talent, it's fair to say both looked off the pace at times today. I understand some people criticising big money signings, I do it myself. But I am inclined to cut them slack today as overall I felt everyone made a positive impact on the game.
Sc dont get me wrong I rate Paulinho and believe him and Sandro will eventually form a superb partnership. My issue is with how we forget experience and big game performance means a great deal, Sandro has that and we shouldn't try and get players 100 percent ready if they dont need to be 100 percent to perform. Even at his current level , Sandro is still our most consistent midfielder and he should have come on today. As for soldado, he should be dropped, not because he is a flop, but because he shouldn't feel he is automatic first choice regardless of performance.
Well.if we can't beat the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea I can't see us doing wonders....as usual. Maybe if Jimmy Greaves could take our forwards to the training ground and show them how goals are scored in the league,we may start to put these teams away!!!!
Paulinho's problem isn't staying on the pace imo. I think his engine's great. His problem is that his touch is very poor, his passing and decision making are average. he gave the ball away 7 or 8 times today, as well as shooting twice when he could have put someone in. his goal last week has masked what have actually been some pretty average performances. on a brighter note, although I have been a heavy critic of dembele, I think he has picked up no end in recent games, and is looking like the very useful player people have been talking him up as for the last season. if he can just put a positive end product on the end of his runs, he will be a fantastic asset.
bigsmithy, Arsenal only beat us 1-0 and Chelsea couldn't beat us so we have a say in things too. I've been saying on this site for a couple of years that the old traditions can easily be turned around and if Mourinho fails at Chelsea then I can see them doing a Man U.
How forgetful are these Chav twats? Remember when that utter disgrace Luiz was holding his leg faking an injury and laughing to get Rafael sent off against United last season. **** off back to your own board Muppet. Look at your own team before criticising. Edit noted he didn't hold his face but faked and injury.
I so hope the FA don't get deflected by Jose's 'mind-games' and investigate Torre's face scratch on Jan. It's a clear red so hopefully Torres will get a four game ban, now that will be funny
Hold onto them. We might need to flog them next season to QPR fans or whichever newly-promoted team we loan him to.
Big difference is Rafael deserved to get sent off, most people with brain cells realise Torres shouldn't have been sent off for the incident in question. I'd look closer to home before criticising Luiz, Townsend for starters.
Unless you are constantly criticizing and always pointing out Ramires, Torres, Cole, Ivanovic diving what is the point of constantly mentioning Townsend. I can predict your response but then you will have missed my point.
