Rabbit you will still be moaning when we've won the Champions League. Try and see some positives FFS.
Could be, but in the following January we beat Spurs 1-0 on the Wednesday in the PL, and then 4-0 in the FA Cup. The year we got to the Final in 2003.
His pass completion must have been high today. I thought he was knitting things together well. Someone will get the stats to prove me wrong, I'm sure, but I'd have guessed 85% +. I don't know what you want him to do -- turn into Jack Cork?
Yeah we were 4th (possibly at Christmas) the season we finished 8th and got to the Cup final. So December 2002.
According to BBC, Crystal Palace had no shots on target...think we must have been doing something right!
I can't believe how wrong you are. The "slow build up" article was way off the mark as well. That defensive performance was top class, with Fonte and Lovren taking on a lot of responsibility in wide positions when the fullbacks went forward and stayed there. Wanyama covering the gap they left in the middle was excellent too. There's a reason we've only conceded twice this season and it's precisely that. That's one of the reasons I compare the strategy to Bielsa's: we basically have three men at the back when in possession, which allows us to basically attack with seven. Sure, the attacking play still needs some work and they're clearly all new to the system, but that second half was very impressive today. I don't know how many times you thought Wanyama gave the ball away today, but I counted one.
They had eight shots, two off target by a distance, and all of the other six were blocked, Fonte and Lovren were throwing themselves at everything. One of them in particular (I think Fonte, but couldn't really see without a clear view on a iffy stream), did incredibly well to block a rocket from Moxey that would have given Boruc serious trouble, and then lept up to cover ground in a heartbeat to block a certain Chamakh goal, though it turned out he was offside anyway, not that Dejan/Jose was to know that.
I've just gone through and checked the stats. Victor Wanyama misplaced 9 passes, but accurately made 53. His pass completion rate was therefore 82%. His average pass length was 19m. He won 100% of his tackles and 80% of his aerial duels. That's a good game in my book.
Fantastic. Nice to get a win on my birthday! Palace are limited, but we stuck to task and I think we will get better and better. Great that Osvaldo got off the mark. Thought Wanyama was good, but maybe I'm missing something.
Good all-round display though I'd find it hard to pick out a man-of-the-match. Think that's probably a good thing in some ways though. Delighted for Dani, delighted to be 4th and delighted with our new-found defensive solidity. It's the foundation on which genuinely good teams are built. It amuses me somewhat that people still moan and think we're not playing well when we're fourth in the league! If we're "grinding out results" whilst not playing well and are still 4th......well, I'll take that!
Just popped BBC 1 live, on the iPlayer and scrolled back to HT, before all the fireworks started. I'm going to scan through and listen to all the whoops and gasps of the afternoon.
A bit of old fashioned detective work! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...tonghen-were-acting-like-a-pair-of-girls.html
The team of the season so far, compiled by WhoScored using their analytics and statistics, has Jose Fonte and Dejan Lovren at CB.
Great sides win games even when they aren't really playing that well. Actually we did play really but only for about 10 minutes! I thought Wanyama was ok and definitely a big improvement from last time out. Defence looks really strong so when we really click......
Just said on Sky that Saints look a very good PL side. Also remarked that people laughed when Boruc mentioned Champions League, but look where Saints are now. Okay....I know, I know, but let's just enjoy this moment.
If you were in the concourse for an extra 5 minutes after half time, you basically missed the whole of the game. Saints were in total control the whole game. Palace are crap and will go down. It was a professional & functional display by Saints. Or another way of putting it... quite dull.
