Last season, Rendell got 19 goals and we also had decent contributions from all over the team. We may need another striker, but I think that is definate progress. I could be wrong, but when Easter and McGleish were scoring, I don't think anyone else was. Beavon always strikes me as a better winger than out and out goalscorer. Let's not get on Rendell's back before the new season has started and trust Waddock to add decent players to a settled team that deserves a crack at L1. There may not be a Leeds or Norwich next season, but it is going to be a very competitive league with Charlton looking to get up as well as the three relegated sides.

If we put his season into perspective with our other no.9's best seasons:
Nathan Tyson 43 starts 4 sub 22 goals
Tommy Mooney 49 starts 1 sub 18 goals
Jermaine Easter 39 starts 8 sub 24 goals
Scott McGleish 46 starts 2 sub 26 goals
Matt Harrold 30 starts 9 sub 12 goals
Scott Rendell 28 starts 15 sub 19 goals

Considering he started less games than all of the above strikers yet his goal return still ranked among the best of them shows he is a good striker

Its so easy to write off Beavon when you look at his goal return, but he is the most technically gifted player Wycombe own and adds so much to the team when he is on the field, lower league defenders just cannot read his play. I would have chosen Beavon over JP if that was the choice that to be made by Waddock. I still think there is chance he will add regular goals to his game, even if its just 10-12 a season.

Someone above mentioned getting on Rendell's back. I don't think that's the case at all. It's a genuine concern about the lack of goals coming from our front players.
Interesting to see the stats above on our other goalscorers. What people have failed to mention is that the likes of Mooney and Easter played together so the joint goal tally was high. There is no denying that our goals for column looked pretty meek baring in mind our league position. The theory is that it will be even harder to score in League 1 than it has been in League 2 hence the concern.
In the past we have had strikers that you felt were dangerous e.g. Mooney won nearly everything in the air, Easter was a tremendous poacher and had pace, McGleish's positional sense was excellent plus his never give up attitude. Also looking at opposing teams we have played in the last couple of seasons you could clearly see the really dangerous strikers (Davies from Chesterfield, Le Fondre, Glenn Murray, Grant Holt, Lowe). Everytime some of those names had a chance you were really fearful. I think we have that same respect from opposing teams for players like Ainsworth, but you don't see any of our strikers mentioned in this way on the message boards.
I personally think Rendell is a reasonable striker. He doesn't have great pace, but is not the slowest by any means. He is reasonable in the air, but not prolific. His main plus point is that he has a good eye for goal. I'm just not 100% convinced that this will be enough for League 1. I do sincerely hope that he will wipe those doubts away and I can say that i wont be getting on his back next season - they are just my thoughts!

Couldn't have said it better slasher. If rovers came in with a good offer and a better replacement is around then it needs to be considered.

Tyson has signed for derby or is very close to it .

cheers for the stats theblues. Interesting to see you included Harrold :) who isnt fit to lick the boots of the others tbh. I like Beever but I do agree that we need another goalscorer. Other teams similar to us who have come into this division have signed players who are often veterans who start from the bench and compliment their striker ranks to give them an extra 10 odd goals per season. Exeter did it with Jamie Cureton, Yeovil with Marcus Stewart and Orient with Mcgliesh. Although im not an advocate of a supposed big name, I would like to see a proven goalscorer at this level come in and give us that.

According to league 2 rumours on Twitter Rovers are also prepared to pay a 6 figure sum for Matt Harrold. I kid you not.

On Rendell, I'm more than happy with him and believe he can be the goalscorer in league one we need as long as we improve our service to him.

I think you are being unnecessarily cruel to our ex striker. I hope he'll be very happy at Bristol. There's plenty of nice grazing down there.

Seriously Harrold hasn't had too bad a season for the Shrews. He didn't play a full season but got 9 goals and 10 assists. The assists put him in 4th in the whole of league 2 players.
