If Assem opened a hairdressers, would you expect it to be a success, just because he's good at making diesel engines?
Depends on the type of management and workers he put in place. Seeing as he's been the best owner I can remember, I don't quite understand what point you're trying to make. Are you suggesting that just because he's good at selling diesel engines, means he's not done a fine job so far during his ownership of the club? I would say based on what he's done with the engines, and what he's done with the club so far, yes, I would expect stuff he does to be a success.
My point was, that just because you're an expert in one business, it doesn't make you an expert in all businesses. I don't believe Assem has any experience in the area of international branding, even his own companies logo and website are appalling. He sells his product because presumably it's a very good product, or he's cheaper than everyone else, he certainly doesn't do it on the back of his brand image.
I'm not sure I understand this post. You say it as if you're not attending the campaign yourself, which makes you pro name change, but then you say "no to hull tigers".
I have suspected for some time since the argument with the `City` Council over the purchase of stadium that Dr Allam has had a bee in his bonnet, and the teddy was well and trult thrown out of the cot, I`m of the belief that this name change business has a lot to do with his paddy over this and the falling out with the council. It may well be that a `Hull Tigers` promotion in the Far East may generate interest with a possibility of investment, however given their penchant towards eating Tiger Penis, is this a sacrifice we`re going to have to make !!!! Playing Devils Advocate, unless any of us have £60+ million to invest, then I suspect that no matter how hard feet are stamped, then Dr Allam will continue with his quest. I sincerely hope that common ground can be achieved and that the history of the name can be maintained, sadly Assam comes across as a bloke who is `not for turning`.
So short version: 1. You think the onus is on Dr A to prove something to you. I disagree with that. That's not logical. He's not trying to sell anything to you. The onus is on you to prove to him it's a bad idea. His track record is thus far pretty good. He's even managed a football club better than anyone else connected with our club, and that includes the fans who seem to know better. 2. Failed examples. Really? What football clubs have changed their name and attempted to do what Dr A may or may not be attempting? We don't REALLY know what his plans are tbh, I think this simply boils down to do you trust him or not, I do, you don't. 3. Franchise. I'm baffled why you even think this. It's not selling the club to another city. Honestly I really do not understand this view at all. Sorry. 4. History. It's just another step forwards and footnote from the past in our history. History being a record of what's happened to a thing in the past, in this case, our club. History would record our name change. I fail to see what difference it would make with a cup having "Hull City AFC" or "Hull Tigers" on it. Either way it's our club. Again, sorry but I just don't see this the way you seem to. Unless I've missed anything, that seems to be the whole argument against the name change?
Just read the minutes "A.Medcalf felt it important that we ask the club to provide evidence to support their argument that a rebrand opens up marketing opportunites." So what is that saying? Ah oh you've been in secret negotiations Mr A, err didnt realise well err..............what then? what if? "It was agreed that a social media campaign will be started to encourage volunteers to meet at West Park gates on Saturday at 1:45pm. They will then be dispersed to the various access points to engage fellow fans. (Top of the footbridge, West Park walkways, Between Walton Street Car Park and North-West corner and under the flyover behind the South Stand.)" There better not be any abuse going on or forcing people to take stuff, I will not be happy about that. To sum up I'm backing Mr Allam 100%.
It's saying we don't buy this 'increasing appeal overseas' nonsense, what's the real reason you want a name change?
Are the campaigners going to do anything on Football Focus tomorrow? I like the ideas about the scarves. But still think we need something bigger than just scarves and banners inside the ground. Good luck to the Campaign.
They should push to get an interview broadcast expressing sensible views to a national audience. If they get on and say "my local Chinese takeaway owner says..." then defeat has already been self engineered.
Short version? My opinion is as I put, your version of my opinion misses most of it and makes false assumptions. I don't think you know what you're arguing in favour of or against, you just seem to want to take a contrary view. That's fine, but you need to be much better at debating than you are to maintain that.
I agree with points 3 and 4 - a lot of fans just don't see a name change as the end of one club and the beginning of another, it will be the same club to them which is why they don't care enough to protest about it.
It might have been a poor interview, but surely saying your club's name is irrelevant, and lousy is worse. Neither are covering themselves in glory lately. Also, when you think that the club under Mr Allam has only attracted dross like SBOBET and Cash Converters to sign up to sponsor us, do the Allam backers believe we'll get any creditable backing in Asia? More dross like those above isn't worth ruining your history and tradition surely.
So instead of all this disruption, as i have said previously, pick 4 representatives from the boards and arrange a meeting with Mr Allam. But do it quickly.
I haven't made any assumptions at all. I haven't even tried to ridicule your views, I was attempting to engage you in debate over what you typed and presenting my views of what looks like your points. Did I miss any points? Thanks for the examples of failed football clubs attempting what we're doing. I've made my feelings and views really clear, you don't seem able to grasp that, you just see me posting something and take a contrary view. I'm already better at debating than you sunshine, as proven by your childish "repartee" and the way you sling the same mud all the time without actually providing any facts and by avoiding answering questions. Please see previous responses as evidence of this (as you like to say). It's no wonder you don't understand why the vast majority of fans are apathetic to your "arguments".
Where's the disruption? The no campaigners are still supporting the lads, and still believe the Allam's are decent chairmen. We dpn't want him to sling his hook, just to change his mind. Anyway, he's too stubborn and probably won't want to sit down with the fans. I'd like to know where the consultation stage will come in.
