I don't think the current union's big or cohesive enough. We should ditch every last vestige of our sovereignty and merge to form a european super state. That would be a much better way forward in my opinion.
It's always the same with these referenda though - one side has to extol the positives of chmage and the negatives of the status quo (and usually overstates both of them) so the other side has to go on about how brilliant the current situation is and paint an apocalyptic picture of what would happen if it changed - and definitely overstates the case for both! i hope England qualify for the world cup as at least we'll all have a couple of weeks respite from all the mud slinging up there
The problem with a European super-state is that it creates a monopoly of government - the beauty of the EU as it was intended was that if the French government decide they want to up your tax to 75% while cutting public services, you can say **** you France, I'm moving to Belgium. UKIP want to remove the EU so that they have a monopoly of power over British citizens, while all the Europhiles want to create a super-state so they have a monopoly of power over all European citizens - no **** is arguing to leave the thing as it is.
I marched with 15,000 people on the Independence Rally last weekend. There were all sorts there: from individuals to other political parties to even football supporters. This is about a lot more than Alex Salmond. It's about choosing a Scotland which sets it's own agenda and takes full responsibility for it's actions or remaining in the UK under an increasingly right-wing and London-centric Westminster parliament.
Very true but not everyone thinks like you. There'll be plenty enough who will vote no just because they hate Salmond - equally, of course, there may be people who vote yes purely because they don't like the no campaigners. It's human nature.
You do wonder whether it's the organisers or the police that make the figures up - I've never seen the 2 tally ever
I don't disagree. I was just destroying Nev's naive point about Salmond. Trust me. There were a lot more than 8,000 people there.
Met the Celtic Fans for Independence at the rally. Good laugh actually. Didn't see any Rangers fans there. Probably at home masturbating to pictures of the Queen. "Oh Lizzy, ma auld darling. Reign over me, a submissive and gullible subject forever..."
Also, I'd vote for Independence if the Scottish capital was changed from Edinbro to Glasgow ... Embra a ****ey capital!
