I have only posted a few times as I am more of a reader really so I am not really known that well but this request is for a good cause.I have enrolled onto gosober/October as I need to lose a stone in weight and at the same time raise money for Macmillan Cancer Trust . It has been a year since I badly injured my back and I recently went back on the tools after eight months behind a desk. That and the second half of last season ( the results driving me to drink ) helped me get a stone overweight. Hopefully this October off the booze plus some swimming will get me back in shape which will help my back and benefit Macmillan. I am struggling for sponsors in this climate so if any of you fellow hoops fans wish to sponsor even the smallest amount please go to this link www.gosober.org.uk/profile/harveygrant . Many Thanks URRRRRRSSSS

    Good luck with that Optimistic.

Giving up drink is a good way to lose weight. You have to watch the old diet too. Cut out the rubbish, biscuits, cakes, fried foods etc and you will be ok.

I lost 4-5stone in the last 18 months or so.

If I can do it, anybody can so good luck to you.

I go sober every october and november (or september-October) for about ten years now. Usually i lost weight about 1,5 - 2 pounds during the period but now i need to lost at least 3 (hopefully 4) pounds before christmas. It's all because summer and beer with bar-b-que.

Guys, whilst i understand the sober october thing is for a good cause and better health etc..Ive always thought that it is the most ridiculous time of the year to do it

Right at the start of Oktoberfest...?

There's 11 other months that can be ruined by a cause like this. Dont ruin the only month that beer is cellebrated the world over!

Try "Parched March" "Ban Jan" or "Gay May" (No offence intended)...Leave Our Oktoberfest Alone ! <ok>

After 30 odd years of having the mo on, I shaved it off in February for my daughters wedding ................. it ain't happening again soon, I can tell you.
I also stopped smoking in February and it has now been 7 months on Sunday. If you want to get me to stop drinking, sorry, you take all the lollies away and Aussie is a grumpy old fart.

    Stay beautiful, people !

I think going sober and being a QPR supporter are mutually exclusive at present. If you have lost the will to drink try going to a few games.

If the good lord 'Arry wanted us to stop drinking then he would have given us attacking football.

That is pretty much why I'm not going tomorrow, these matches are far easier to cope with from outside the stadium.

Hopefully Rangers will turn on the style just to spite me.

Yes, I did have a habit that was getting out if control. No, I've found it surprisingly easy. I think it helps to have a compulsive/obsessive personality such that one can find other ridiculous things to obsess over, such as running, reading, working and ****ing.

Indeed. This can be particularly dangerous at the changeover during the relays...
