http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892...uthampton-prepared-to-sell-lambert-in-january Seems oddly vague and i cant picture it but thoughts anyone?
Highly improbable. If so, why does Pochettino keep playing him? Why did Pochettino give him a contract extension? Lambert has been quoted as saying that he wants to end his career at Saints, and I can't envisage that changing.
Depends, if some one came in with a £5m offer he will be gone IMO. Lambert just doesn't seem to be able to play our style of football.
Must admit 3 months ago I'd have said total rubbish but he is 32 and his value can only go down. NC is a business man so ............. I'd love him to stay but it won't be a complete shock if he went.
Can't believe any supporter would even be remotely accepting of Lambert being sold, who cares whether his value is going down? He's a genuine Southampton legend and a major reason we're even in the premier league.
For one thing we don't need the money. I could understand lambert becoming squad rotation player not guaranteed to start every game. Great option from the bench etc. this is lazy journalism.
I can see it happening , but will be gutted if it does . If he does go he will always Be a hero , and I hope he earns a fortune !
If we had three or four better forward players than lambert I could understand it. I'm not even sure we have even one yet. So no chance this will happen.
Would I want it to happen? No. Can I see it happen? Yes if the right offer comes in. It's not about accepting Lambert being sold or not. It's about atm he just doesn't work in our system, he hasn't scored in open play for ages now. Yes I would love for him to suddenly click and start scoring again. But what if he doesn't? Say by Jan he has only added 2 or 3 pen goals to his record and West Ham bid £5m. I can see any team being tempted by that for a 32 yr old. It's not like we won't add players to the team is it? If we are around the position we are in the league in Jan and Valencia are still playing poor it could even be Banega.
Lambert still has a lot to offer. Even if he doesn't fit into our plan A, he could continue to be a serious asset coming off the bench. He scored 15 goals last season. I still feel he'll fit into our current system for some types of opposition. And sentimentally, we can afford to keep him. I think he will prove to be an exeption to Cortese's business-like mentality.
The "you'll only get one chance in a game and you have to take it" style of football? Doesn't appear to be suiting Osvaldo or Jay Rodriguez either. Perhaps we'll play with no strikers and just have centre halfs score all our goals.
6 goals in 21 games under Pochettino - two of them free kicks and one a penalty. Cap in underwhelming performances on the whole, and one goal in open play since February, yeah, I think it's fair to say he's not the prototype striker in our current style of play.
Guess you have to accept articles like these will happen when our players become more well known (like Lambert after playing for england). Journalists have to fill their publications with something, and it might as well be idle speculation.
Think Saintalona has hit the nail on the head. We have Osvaldo JRod and Rickie. Next best are Lee and Guly. We need another striker before Rickie goes anywhere.
On the other hand i do enjoy this guy's other recent piece 'Poyet Set for Sunderland interview' Poor Sunderland, bounced from one twatter to another if this comes true :-D
