This is ridiculous. I'm sure it makes sense to you, i suppose thats good enough but i can't be ****ing arsed to work out what is trying to be said now
Even though we have kept a good few clean sheet's i still feel we need to get a bit tighter in defence,Villa were not far away last night, and Norwich caused a few problems at times
Villa created a couple of chances against a defence that had never played together, but what did Norwich create? They barely got out of their own half! Cardiff could've scored. They had one really good chance and a couple of half chances, but our finishing was more of a problem than our defending.
Yup, I thought about you too as I was writing that! Anyone with an opinion on the defence gets a dressing down from the thought police Harsh on Walker I know, especially in a world cup year where he seems to be No. 1, just playing a little devil's advocate. Prior to this season I would have put Kaboul straight in at RB but yes Kyle is obviously doing well so far so should stay. For the moment.
There will always be room for improvements, but Vertonghen's best position is not FB so why play him there, and Kaboul's best position is not FB so why play him there ?
"i still feel we need to get a bit tighter in defence,Villa were not far away last night, and Norwich caused a few problems at times" You accept that the opposition are going to get the odd chance. As long as the chances are few in number and the opposition are not clinical, then things will play out much as they have to date.
I think that the idea of Kaboul as a full-back should be put to bed. I'm assuming that he wasn't used yesterday because of his ongoing injury issues, so playing him out there would probably make them worse. He'd have to cover more ground and really open up to be effective in that role and I don't think he's capable any more, unfortunately.
"the more clinical one's are the one's i'm worried about" Perhaps we should keep sloppiness and good play stats for goals conceded.
I hope Vertonghen plays on the left. He's very good there, and Naughton has been poor. I would start Dembele with Paulinho, as I think Dembele has been a particularly good big game player for us (His teams have gotten seven points from his last three games against Man U). I would also start Eriksen with Soldado, though I'd consider bringing on Defoe late. I can't make up my mind as to Lamela vs. Townsend, and Holtby vs. Chadli vs. Gylfi. Maybe Lamela and Holtby. That would give Chelsea plenty to worry about. Townsend and Chadli are more predictable. Put another way, we've got to get players into the box if we start Chadli and Townsend. I don't know how many times I watched Chadli put in decent crosses to a sea of red shirts + our undersized striker against Arsenal. If players are going to make runs, fine. If they aren't, don't start players who are primarily good for getting crosses in, and play Lamela, Holtby and/or Gylfi.
If Spurs can manage a win on Saturday, it would give us 15 points from our first 6 games of the season, which would be a new club record in the Premier League Era. Our previous best return was 13 points from 6 games at the start of the 2002-03 season... Tottenham Hotspur Premier League Points Won 1992-93 to 2013-14
Kaboul defended well there in no other option circs a few times, that doesn't mean he's competition or even a rotation option. He does not have the close control of Walker, and I don't feel his distribution is anywhere near Kyles who played a peach of a sliderule in an early game. YK does not have this, and would not provide the forward threat, so I am surprised at the amount of times I've read this suggested. KW does make defensive errors, but he recovers a lot of them with his sheer pace and athleticism, I don't care how he defends as long as he does.
I'm going to this one - very close game methinks. I'd always take a draw against Chelsea but now is as good a time as any to play them. Hope this match is the one where Lamela makes his full PL debut - can't stand Townsend shooting all the time.
The good thing about this game is that two teams above Utd could drop points - one must. I'm predicting a 1-1 draw, but any result is possible. First game in a while where Spurs ought to be slight favourites though. With Mata sidelined (for obviously very sound reasons ), Chelsea don't look as threatening.
If Chelsea win it they'll probably go on to win a few more in succession because it's a big game for them. If we win it then we'll do the same. I see a home win.
I have a horrible feeling Maureen will bring Mata into this game and he'll be looking to prove a point.
Spurm - Incidentally, re totsfan erroneous claim, as you know dropping Daws is NOT something WE would all like to see. Daws is part of our 'best XI'. Every time he leads Spurs out I look back with a big smile at all those 'best XIs' all summer long, on other forums particularly, that didn't have him in their 'first XI'. I expect him to lead us out against Chelsea and recall the 4 goals we conceded at home to Chelsea last season when so many people had their wish and Daws wasn't in the team. Yep, that was a great call, not. ATM, I'm thinking draw, but as usual await team sheets before predicting.
