Morning, troops. Nice card at Newmarket today and it’s a shame it’s not televised by Channel 4 – it deffo would have been in olden days, methinks. Anyway I quite like a couple and they, I say they, are: Cable Bay (3.40) – has won just 1 of his 5 races but has performed with admirable credit on his last 3 starts in Group 2 heats and that form undoubtedly sets the standard as the old boy steps down a grade in this heat. Excellent performances in the Richmond, Gimcrack and Champagne means that Cable Bay deserves to be perched as highly as 108 which is a figure far in excess of the form shown by his rivals to date. 3/1 looks a generous price and I would expect him to record victory ‘number 2’ here before a possible step back up in class Caucus (4.15) – carries a 3 pound penalty here but I still take him to oblige against rivals who for one reason or another all have question marks against them. The last 2 times Caucus has been asked to contest Listed contests he has won on both occasions (including this race last term) whilst has also performed this season very well in Group heats – the highlight being a close 2nd to Estimate, at Ascot, prior to her obliging in the Gold Cup. Ran a solid race in the Group 2 Lonsdale last time and these formlines should see him go very close at appealing odds of 11/4. A lot of his rivals are out of form whilst, favourite, Repeater hasn’t won for over 2 years and last season performed badly after a decent effort in the ‘Doncaster Cup’. Good luck, team.
From Sporting Life: A Sky Bet punter was celebrating a £52,000 pay-out from a 25p each-way Lucky 31 at Redcar on Wednesday. Beau Mistral (5/1) set the ball rolling when landing the Download The Racing UK App Handicap at 350 and 35 minutes later Ebony Express duly obliged at 8/1. Auto Mac (12/1) was next up in the Racing Replay, All today's Racing Sky 432 Selling Stakes and when 20/1 pick Mercer's Row landed the first division on the Two Year Old Trophy Comes Next Handicap then the Leeds-based firm were running for cover. There was nowhere to hide though and Lees Anthem's success in the second division at 605 sparked the huge pay-out. Sky Bet Racing PR Manager Michael Shinners said: "Sometimes you have to doff your cap to a punter. To find those five winners at Redcar was a remarkable effort and while there were plenty of heads in hands in our trading room after Lees Anthem's success, I'm sure there were wild celebrations elsewhere!"

Cable Bay looks the solid option in the 3.40 at HQ. Championship hasn't done much, God Willing didn't set the world alight at Newbury, so both appear to be priced on potential and connections. Silent Bullet was visually impressive when seeing off his stablemate at Haydock last time, and I'd fear him most, but Cable Bay has the proven form in Gp2 company to suggest he can take this, and money for the others makes him a decent price.
Championship 4.5/1 in the 15.40 Newmarket. Despite a slow start, and trouble in running, beat Berkshire on début. Down the field (beat only 1 home) in G2 at Ascot next time; always out the back and took a bit of a bump when trying to challenge but never looked in with a chance. I'm going to rely more on his run against Berkshire and take a chance that he's better than that last run. God Willing has 2 G1 entries but Spencer never wins for me.
