When he was on top about 6-7 years ago he was simply phenomenal, and as I said one of the most sought after strikers around. He's a character alright and could easily become a crowd favourite. And if Harry and the management have seen enough to hand him a contract we can but hope that he'll produce the much needed goods. He should still be able to hit free kicks like he did as that is not something you lose with age. At 33 he's still a young lad imo Here's a compilation of what he can(could) do, I stress that this compilation as made 5 years ago so don't get your hopes up just yet lads
I'm more excited by us signing this relatively unknown than say, signing Adebayor or Kane. It's come as a complete surprise signing by us for a change. I hope he does well for us. If he does he could become a cult figure among the LR faithful.
Funnily enough, I feel exactly the same way. I never thought I'd say this but I hope that one day in the future we will become a selling Club once more. Well run, financially sound, good scouting network, good academy sourcing great local talent and everything else the way a small Club should be run. You know, the QPR way
Well he certainly knows where the goal is! Can strike the ball well, and intelligent finishes in that clip.'
Clive Whittingham's take on the signing. (Swords look away) He was the fourth top scorer in Serie A in 2003/04 (ten years ago) with 19 goals, behind only Andriy Shevchenko (24), Alberto Gilardino (23) and Francesco Totti (20). "If Charlie Austin were to get injured this weekend then QPR would be left with nothing, so the chance to bring in a very experienced striker with a decent goal scoring record in some of Europe's best leagues, for free, on a short term contract, looks like a bit of a no brainer." http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/32928/?
Ditto for this guy:-
WOPS eh Swords - you really are scum aren't you - you're going to say you can't help it only goading but what scum u r
I think Harry is trying to bolster the squad numbers wise we are still a bit thin ... young guns in EDS will start featuring later in season with any luck...harry likes a player who integrates...not like Taarabt maybe...
Wops? Don't worry about them it's the Mops you should have concerns about That lot would clean the floor against most of the other unacceptable names for global social groups ... Those Mops should be hung out to dry IMO
jeez guys - don't get into all of this. Swords, you should know better than this - what other derogatory racist epithets are you gonna come out with next eh? let's not start all of this. Again.... And Westlondonlalala, please don't retaliate on the boards, cos it just ends up in a pointless bitchslapping fight and nobody wins. If you have an issue with a post, don't get personal with the other member, report the post to the mods and let them deal with it - that's their job. Anyway - a Uruguayan who supposedly knows where the goal is? Could be interesting..........
LaLa, you've got balls.......
I really don't get why so many people want to moan about a signing before we've even see the guy play???? If he scores a hat-trick on Saturday, aren't you going to feel a bit of a prat? If in a few weeks and he hasn't scored, killed someone in row Z and been sent off a couple of times, then I could understand, but why now? Signings like this are perfect for us at the moment, short term, low risk and no commitment if it doesn't work out. We would all love us to sign the best young, up and coming strikers at the moment, but the fact is we are a small club, albeit with big ambitions who ply their trade in the championship. Any young striker who is capable of playing at the top level is on the radar of the top clubs, we haven't got a chance of signing them while we are in the Championship. The players that are left for us to buy might do a job for us now, but then we're stuck with a player who wont be good enough if we get promoted. So this is the way to go, but that means they are our player now, does that not mean they are worthy of our support? Do we not want them to do well? Should we not hope for the best, rather than expecting the worst? I've never known such negativity from any clubs fans when they are top of the table and clear by 3 points, I'd have thought if offered the position we are in before the season started, that all fans would be deliriously happy. So why all the negativity?
Agree with 'CORKeR' ............ Well said 'TheLoneRanger'. As mentioned, regardless of whether this guy goes well for us or not, any damage will be minimal. The overriding facts are that this guy obviously wants to come over and prove himself, if not, 3 months and he's back in Europe ......................... so the positive here is that he'll want to hit the ground running which can only be good for us .............. love it! While your at it Harry, rope in a couple more for good measure. The knowledge that they could pass on to Austin & co, would be invaluable. '
