  1. Wasn't that also Everton's most successful period too...?

You've contradicted yourself there - if 12 games unbeaten 'meant nothing' then, why is it different now?

You can't dismiss last season if we're talking about the general principle of unbeaten runs! It didn't fill us with confidence and we were very shaky at home.

  3. Of course you can dismiss last season. A unbeaten run installs a feel good factor about the club, that doesn't work if there is a two or three month gap between games! It is also a different squad with at least a dozen players either leaving or joining the club. Last season is gone and is part of history (probably why we're talking about it <whistle>), it is only what happens this season that counts, including winning or unbeaten runs.

3 points for a win started in the early 80's from memory mate & the backpass rule about a decade later.

  5. Yeah, backpass rule went in the early 90's as I can remember that change. I was only born in 81 <whistle>

But I don't really care about Everton's run [with all due respect] <ok>

I care about Liverpool and don't think our fans need to worry about unbeaten runs. OUR past performances have seen us lose out on the league for too many draws and our latest unbeaten run has seen no confidence build and no fortress Anfield!

that's true mate Everton have a great home record but on the other side no one wants to be the team that only has 5 league away wins in 16 months if you can't travel you can't win anything (see also last night)

You've just made the same mistake. Stating as a general principle ' an unbeaten run instils feel good factor' - having dismissed an unbeaten run with no feel good factor <doh>

I mean that an unbeaten run during the season is what matters whereas the 12 game run was split from last and this season.

You are right though that too many draws then detracts from any unbeaten run there has to be a balance and more wins than draws is essential.

....or be in contention for the title by not being beaten often....<whistle>

I used us as an example as it's a totally relevant one, as it proves the point (with respect) your home unbeaten league run was a mere 8 games, so hardly long enough to generate the fortress mentality amongst both your players & the opposition.

  11. I didn't do that bit! Our "unbeaten run" (baring in mind that I've already explained why last season should be dismissed) was four games long and we didn't exactly play well in any of them and scored only one goal in three of them too. That's not going to build massive confidence going forward but it will defensively.

I used to argue your point too, afterall it makes sense as you end up with more points. However, losing a game massively effects confidence, especially if its a regularly occurrence. It wouldn't take long for a loss every other game to turn into more loses.

Of course, losing also gives opponents more points too. this could prove costly should it be a rival team <ok>

Can't call it mate, I'll be interested to see the team sheets though, as this is a game that Moyes (rather than United) can't afford to lose.

So I think he'll be forced into naming a side that will be far stronger than it would have been, had he started his reign at OT in better fashion & wasn't off the back of a 4-1 hammering at Citeh.

It could go either way, as the pressure is all on United. Really looking forward to the game (which usually ensures that it's crap)

If I was Moyes I'd be instructing a couple of my senior pro's to be whispering in Jaws ears from the first minute though......

  15. So, if they do lose, what do you expect to see happen...? Surely they won't be looking to sack him already...?

No, but he'll be in for a massive amount of flak from the rags (including my mate) and their plastic fans.

Exactly - it just adds more pressure onto his shoulders (which is great to see!).

Do you think he needs to text SAF to come out to the papers and help him out? <whistle>

Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if SAF does return to a more hands on role if Moyes continues to struggle ...

Also, whilst I appreciate Moyes wanting to bring in his own staff, getting rid of the existing staff such as René Meulensteen was a massive gamble.
