Anyone clued up on these cowboys giving out parking fines at humberside airport? I stopped in the bus stop for 15seconds at most and have now got a £60 fine. I've been reading various forums that say they are illegal and not to pay. Anyone have any ideas

Only the police and traffic wardens can issue fines. Private land such as car parks can only sue for breach of contract.

If you had exceeded the time in a car park I would have said ignore it, but parking in a bus stop could be an offence under the road traffic act meaning you would be liable to a fine.

If they are not threatening to impose points on your licence its more likely to be a private prosecution so you may be able to ignore it. If points on licence don't ignore it

Luton Airports the same, you have to pay a quid (I think) to go into a drop off area, if you don't, and just stop anywhere else, even for 15 seconds, you'll get a 60 quid fine. Suspect it's the same for you.

Id suggest finding out and deciding what to do asap because these things normally go up quickly if you don't pay.

I've heard of people being succesful in ignoring the demand, but I don't personally know anyone that's got away with doing that (in the UK anyway).

I do know someone that queried the ticket based on the companies own guidelines and also the guideline of the voluntary scheme many subscribe to, and they were succesful. Seemingly most that query it have the bill quashed, but I've no idea if that's accurate.

I guess the thing to do if you choose to query it, would be to look at the guidelines and see if they've strayed anywhere from them, highlight each point and ask for clarification. Failing that, ignore it and see what happens, or pay it.

My missus got one in that retail park down Hessle Road and the woman in Wilko's told her to just ignore it.

    Case settled.

Just ignore it and if you get a summons through the post ignore that as well.

When you're up in front of the judge just say some woman in Wilko's told OLM's better half to ignore her ticket and he told you.

No case to answer to and the judge will dismiss it straight away.

    On a more serious note;

Any decent deals on at Wilko's?

It was just those private parking scammers.

I've no idea what deals they have on, I'd check with the missus for you, but she's doing a girly week in Portugal at the mo.

I went to Wilkos at the weekend. Sunday to be exact. I forgot to report my findings.

Old spice and Brût £2.99 for a bottle of aftershave. Also doing a big stir fry pan with a lid on for £14, not bad.

I bought a bottle of water for 24p and a bottle of Dettol no-touch refill soap for about £3. It's nourishing Shea butter and rose essence, which I think is bullshit, because its ****ing rank on toast.

We've ran out of hand wash, well when I say ran out I mean the west wing has ran out.

I might pop down on my day off and see what I can find, that's how exiting my life is.

As for the pay/ don't pay issue?

Was a ticket issued and what sort of signage do they have on display?

What he said. Same at a supermarket or any store - they cant fine you for overstaying the alloted period and if they say 'fine' then it's illegal and would never stand up in court. They can only 'charge' you.

This thread needs input from Mel, he's likely to be the most in the know about this on here.

    No ticket issued.

Just a £60 bill issued through the post with an automated photo vehicle registration thing on it.

The signage is also crap, there's a sign if you come in from one side, but not one if you come into the car park from the other end.

I wouldn't pay then on the principle it isn't signed clearly.

If they decide to take civil action what evidence can they produce?

Was it one if those jobs worths with a machine that takes note of when you arrive and goes around checking?

If that's the case can you see his company giving him the morning on pay to attend court to give evidence?

It would cost them more than the £60 or whatever it is they're asking for.

It's automated, a camera reads your numberplate and if you're still there two hours later, it generates a fine.

Does anyone else drive her car?

My Mrs refused a speeding fine because she said it could have been me driving her car. She knew damn well it was her driving but after a right carry on got away with it.

That's where you've got them then. Legally, they cannot fine you - they can only charge you.
