Now - please don't call me sad - but last night I watched the Brentford v Orient game. Normally I wouldn't bother with such a fixture. My interest was fuelled by my desire to see what was on offer from what may be considered to be 1. A play-off finalist 2. The 'form' team in the country I know that we've played both so far this season. We gave Brentford a good game - possibly unlucky not to have won. The game against Orient was a meaningless cup match- so perhaps not necessarily a true reflection of our 'abilities' ( I'm being kind - whilst my medicine is kicking in ahead of the game on Saturday ). I was intrigued as to how these two teams would perform in this match. When I say perform I do mean in terms of skill ! I was pleasantly surprised to see that in terms of skill, there really wasn't anything 'special' on show. Certainly no more skill than the current Gills squad possess. BUT The obvious difference between us and the 'best' was their level of committment - Martin Allen could do worse than show a video of last night's game to our players - to remind them that they are good enough - but need to work harder.
Always...... However, looking at your post your last edit was due to a typo........ so..... not one of your list of achievements then! Also....being prone to pendantry, I would have thought that you'd have listed your attributes alphabetically. Ha.....have a good one (even if the team isn't at present). ....... oh I agree with your comments regarding MA getting the team to watch the video of the game. Nothing ventured.....etc.
alwaysright - I believe this highlights my point I mentioned in another thread, when people might suggest that was the worst performance seen against Bradford, whereas I say it was the better performance. Maybe it appeared the worst because Bradford were a better team then our previous visitors Brentford and Colchester. Bradford last season's play off winners and League Cup runners up.
Either the players aren't up to the job or they are not being set up in the right way, so if we think the players are capable in league 1 then MA needs to work on our tactics. On Saturday we were losing the midfield battle, failing to protect the defence and failing to support our strikers, MA makes his first substitution and swaps a striker ?????
The midfield this season is much weaker than last year. Main money should have been spent in midfield. Like when we bought Hess. When is the penny going to drop? Aarrggghhh!
Although come season ends that means nothing...ok I might be wrong...read on... In comparison to the 2012/13 season for League one and dated 22/09/12 after eight games, the top four clubs at this stage, never made it even into the playoffs. They were Tranmere, Stevenage, Notts County and MK Dons. However, sadly two of the bottom four at that same stage were relegated and others in that area only survived the drop by achieving the 51 point margin. Things therefore do not bode well for the Gills but we can only keep the faith that at least we have the ability to survive...don't we?...
The 4 teams lying in the bottom 4 places at Christmas all stayed there and were relegated, 23 points was the lowest total at Christmas for a team who went on to survive, this means we require 7 wins between now and Christmas, easily do-able but not on our current form.
WINDYROG im sory iff i kant spel rite - inglish isnt' mi furst langwich - awlso i ham awl fingurs and fums on mi laptopp sew i pres ther rong butons as for my attributes - these are listed in order of accusation from my 'admirers'
Whilst I can't comment on the quality of performances so far, what may yet be a saving grace is that there are a number of other teams that haven't set the division alight in terms of getting points under their belts, which means that in the relatively immediate future a couple of wins and a draw would probably see us in a relatively more comfortable position. It is a bit depressing watching the results come in every Saturday, and equally depressing the way we seem to be able to leak an early goal, leaving us with an uphill task for the rest of the game. Anyhow, it's game number 2 this season for me on Saturday. After game number 1 anything better than a 4-0 defeat would be an improvement, but I'm hoping for more than that.
I was going to say that you've learned the art of first and last letter, word reading, but looking at that sentence even that's not right...but I still understand it...so I suppose it makes it alwasyright...lol
Acworth - He's alive & kicking on General Chat - still with failed grammar. He actually uploaded a short video clip of him being interviewed by a newsreporter following an arrest in his road, after serviceman Lee Rigby had been murdered in London . It would be too unkind of me to say that he looks as gormless as he writes. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...DAdiU_SRRfh2cAoCQ&sig2=1wQpMP-IH0TB0m8dgaCXGg 5 minute 10 seconds into the clip. brb It's no good you twisting around my username - you might have to delete my Crewe Camel thread in case Mrs. brb reads it - because she might put a stop to your away days - I might also be sailing a bit close to the wind with itstimupnorth - all will soon be revealed.
alwaysright - yes I'm aware of the JA media interviews after that horrendous event. Did not realise it was one of the same person though?...and can't see it somehow except in grammar. I thought his name was either a2c or addicted2...something like that can't be asked to look...he did come over here in that same name...I believe one was genuine and one was an imposter...I thought he cleared off because we don't moderate to his beloved BBC standards. I just can't imagine the old a2c ever being associated with GC...lol
