Right, just throwing ideas into the pot so genuine responses requested.

Bally is my favorite player from the last 30 years and is Mr Sunderland through and through. He really lives and breathes the club and his standing here is above reproach. He has worked tirelessly in he youth set up with great success and now with the development squad/ reserves he is doing a fantastic job.

He is hard as nails but I've met him several times and he is also incredibly approachable, intelligent and articulate. He showed tonight he is also capable of thinking about team selection and tactics playing Giacherinni in the hole in a 5 man midfield.

Is it too early? Are the circumstances surrounding the club acceptable?

Who knows? We've appointed experienced ones who have made an arse of the job, so why not an inside man who has been coaching for 10 years here, in the old Liverpool boot room fashion? Maybe with an experienced number 2 alongside he would prosper and one thing is guaranteed is total fan support to succeed. I think players would respond to his approach and let's face it, you'd run through brick walls for this bloke. He would also be loyal and not look to get away if successful.

    Thoughts?

    Returned from the spectacle

Team made Swansea look like ****e in terms of passing and flowing football

Cattermole controlled the midfield and sprayed the ball out to the wings giving Johnson a lot of opportunities

Giacc/Altidore looked comfortable on the ball and hungry

All in all the team looked far superior to any performance I have seen this season, whilst it was against lower opposition the 2-0 scoreline didnt reflect the game in terms of chances and domination

However Cattermole and Ki looked very strong together and switched roles well when they needed to, Johnson/Larsson both played well on the wings and got some good crosses in

Cuellar and O'Shea did what needed doing but had a few shaky moments, Gardner did what he had to do

Colback was superb in terms of bombing up the wing and also performing his defensive duties

Free-kicks didnt improve much, however Corners had improved significantly with each of them beating the first man and getting in the mix

    Ref was ****e as per

    Good game

I've said no. Wouldn't write him off for the future but would like to see him take a first team coach role for a few years before maybe promoting him to a number 2 (not a turd)

I just think that if our options are fading for Di Matteo or Zola and Poyet and have moved onto McCleish, McClaren, Lennon or Pulis, then I'd sooner have Bally considered and look to appoint a wise old head for him to lean on.

McCleish, McClaren, Lennon or Pulis imo would divide the fans and that would be simply devastating at the minute whereas I think we would all rally round Bally from the off and make the SOL vibrate for him. I suggested A Reidy/Bally combinations earlier today but maybe I've missed the point there and maybe its the other way around with Reidy as a his assistant (as Reidy has done with Pulis recently).

    Just a thought.

i get where your at and refrained from posting on that thread earlier, a peaking reid and an aspiring bally would be mint but we are talking about an out of the game peter, who gave us some of the best times of our supporting lives and a tried and tested bally who we all love, but maybe hasnt got the brain.

i would love to bring back those days of peter on the touch line and bally marshalling the game but it aint gonna happen bro!

I think he could be ready. compared to what we've tried and what the options are I don't get all excited about any of them - they'd all be a big ****ing gamble. PLUS I'd love it if Bally could succeed, coz he is such a terrific bloke and bleeds SAFC with all the fire we want to see but without any of the pomp.....his team selection and tactics tonight looked bang on, too.
Larsson back on wide right, is that correct? his only and best position. Ki & Catts back in the middle. etc etc I don't even think we need Reidy back Cest? Maybe SKP comes in as a No.2??

I think you guys may well be jumping the gun here a little bit. Would have expected you to turn over Peterborough regardless of your situation. See how he does after the next two games (they are not a real barometer for him)

I think Bally is an intelligent bloke and at 48 has a lot of coaching behind him. He also talks to men like men and wouldn't be anyone's push over in the dressing room. I know him and Scotty are big pals and Scotty has had some experience so maybe that would be the combo?

I just feel right now we are all looking everywhere and to everyone whilst a pretty decent man sits here already and his interview on Sky just now was class. Its obvious he would love the job and said as much without saying it. I think there is a bit of Reidy in his thinking but with a modern footballers brain.

You know the more I say it the more sane it all sounds?

QWOP I'm just looking at some of the names being bandied about and I just don't want any of them. Bally isn't a novice and has 10 years coaching behind him through the ranks and this is the old Liverpool way to promote from within. He doesn't need a scouting network as the club have gone down the route of a DoF and above all, he would galvanise the whole fanbase and players alike. He would be a huge gamble but then so would half the names mentioned so far? Better a gamble we all desperately would love to succeed than one who will not have all the backing form day one?

Ricky was very well respected and a tremendous servant to the club for years but it all counted for nothing when he kept us up. Wouldn't want bally to go down in anybodies estimation but it could happen. If the scenario was that the vacant position was down to the previous coach being approached by another club then I might be swayed to take a punt but not in the position we're in now. Mind you, if we won the next two. :p

I understand where you are going with this but he seems to be ticking the boxes the majority thought PDC would cover. You need a manager who is tactically astute as well as someone who can motivate. I will admit I know little about Bally apart from the fact he was a tough no nonsense player. Going from coach to manager is one hell of a step up and it might be too much for him. You don't want a legend taking you down. I know you will all cite Shearer for us BUT he had eight games to save an already sunken ship. This is somewhat different.

I agree with you mate 100% on everything else.

For me he's the right man at the wrong time. His time will come.

I know I've got slightly rose tinted glasses on tonight coz of the result, but he does seem to be much more sure of himself as a coach. I don't want his legendary status to be tarnished if it doesn't work out, but what have we/he got to lose really. I don't think he'll be slated, I don't think he's out of his depth, and he has some good players to help us get results....plus very low expectations to match for the dippers and devils coming up.

He also lives in the area, which is a nice change!

If I were Bally I'd stay put. This season appears to me a poison chalice. We have been destined to be relegated since Steve Bruce ran us into the ground. We have never recovered from his ineptitude. I've got a bad feeling about this year. Bally would be better to step in if we do go down. At least he could build some momentum.

I know I'm being negative but that's where I am right now. I have no confidence in our players delivering regardless of manager.
