Loved the crest from the 80's that I grew up with but I also like the one we have now. Well done seagull with removing the scroll, modernised it in one simple swoop, top work But it will need some other "colour" imo, maybe some gold or silver trim somewhere, I don't know as I'm clueless at design. See, I don't think it's timeless. I think that the previous badge looks very dated and 90s looking. I prefer our current badge. It stands out on pages with other teams badges on it. I don't see a need to change any time soon. Change it in another 10 years perhaps.
Couldn't have put it better myself, awjm. I can see a row developing here between the pro and anti current badge factions! The one thing that's not correct with the current crest, is the white base. It makes it look a bit fake and kind of "stuck on" when on the jersey. The crest itself, in my own opinion anyway, is perfect. The last one looked so 80's. They'd be better off if they just left the base blue and allow it absorb into the shirt colour. Betty, I'm surprised at you! I thought women were supposed to be good at noticing good designs when they see them!!
The designers were doing well if it's 90s looking... it was produced in the early 80s! I take you point, but can't agree as to the current badge. If it does stand out, for me it's because it is overly flamboyant. Coupled with the fact that it needs a bloody great white blob around it ( http://www.footballshirtculture.com...rk-rangers-2013-2014-lotto-football-kits.html ) because the designers didn't seem to consider the actual usage - i.e. the fact that it needed to be embroidered and put on a shirt - and opted for gradients and curlicues more suited to pixels, means it's a bit of a dogs dinner. It also reverses out very nicely...
Seagull design is timeless ... I would just experiment with better a san serif and spacing, drop the fc and spread out the type to meet on the 180 and submit it as this IMO would become a classic very quickly. Seagulls design would also 3D really well
Personally I dont like our badge, the "fluffy bits" remind me of The Orange One's hair. But changing it is not a priority, we just need to concentrate on winning this league. If we were going to change it though I'd go back to the previous one, but I can get sentimental over the past!!!!!!!!!!!! so it may be best to just ignore me.
I thought the goons had a bloody cheek changing our badge. Badges should be eternal. Having said that, I have to give credit and say that I quite like the design, although the "white blob" referred to above does detract from it. Seagull's return to the Hammersmith version suffers because none of us appear to know what the symbols really mean. I've always thought that, to be lucky, horseshoes should have the open end upwards, to retain the good luck they catch rather than let it slip out the bottom. On balance, I'd stick with what we've got now.
Agree some of the letter pairs need kerning - would keep the F.C. just because it was originally there. I think you would struggle to get the name to meet on the centre line - the height of the letters night become too tall unless you tracked the letters out or used an expanded typeface more like the original. Feel free to suggest an alternative font and I'll run up another version cheers
Here you go - Gotham... though might be a bit overused at the mo' ...as you might imagine... I'm a bit quiet workwise... the joy of being a freelancer!
Not got that Guinness out of your system yet mate? The current one looks like it was stuck on with Pritt stick as an afterthought, designed by a couple of Harry Potter fans on absinthe. The Seagull one is seamless, part of the shirt. Having said that I like the old Hammersmith & Fulham badge too, because it clashes with everything.
