Police used teargas in an attempt to restrain fans who rushed on to the field after Galatasaray midfielder Felipe Melo was shown a red card, CNN Turk said. please log in to view this image Disgrace: Thugs attack security staff during pitch invasion please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Concern: The referee leads the players off the pitch Didier Droga had scored twice and Galatasaray were leading 2-1 in the third minute of added time when the match was halted, sending the players sprinting for the safety of the dressing rooms. Besiktas right-back Serdar Kurtulus setup Hugo Almeida with a well timed cross to put the home side ahead in the 18th minute. But Bruno threatened on a number of occasions before making the most out of a defensive mistake by Serdar to assist Drogba with the equaliser in the 59th minute. Veli Kavlak's miss-timed pass was intercepted by Yilmaz who set up Drogba for the winner. The match became heated after Felipe Melo's rash two-footed tackle resulted in a straight red card and he was hit by a bottle thrown from the crowd as he walked off the pitch. Fans then stormed the pitch resulting in the referee along with both sides running off the pitch. please log in to view this image Chaos: Besiktas' supporters clash with riot police please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Carnage: The match was abandoned in the 93rd minute please log in to view this image Outrage: Galatasaray's Felipe Melo was hit by a bottle thrown from the card as he left the pitch after being sent off please log in to view this image Flashpoint: Opposition players square up please log in to view this image Bloodied: An injured fan flees the violence The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) regulations state that in the event of a match being suspended by a pitch invasion the game will be postponed. The TFF disciplinary committee will then decide on the outcome of the result - which in this case is almost guaranteed to be a 3-0 victory awarded to Galatasaray. The match was the first Istanbul derby of the season and follows months of civil unrest in Turkey's largest city over government plans to demolish a city park at the central square of Taksim. Besiktas' politicised fan base, dubbed 'Carsi', was a prominent force in the anti-government protests and often clashed with police during the peak of the unrest in June. My main concern is what were all those patio sets doing in a football stadium? Just as well no-one had one of those big gas barbecues to hand.
...and didn't bring in by the van load for a photo op? More likely the B&Q concession stand next to the dugout got raided.
