Appleton's star has really fallen which is a shame as he was someone I would have thought have done well in management. He appears to still be out of the game after being sacked by Blackburn.
It's probably too early in the season for there to be many opportunities of replacing sacked managers. Won't be too long.
I was going to suggest a while ago that we should approach an old manager for some role on the board as a director where he could be consulted by the manager but not in a position to threaten the manager's job. My initial thought was Jim Smith given his history with the club but he's at Oxford Utd in that kind of role, so instead I thought I'd mention Frank Burrows as a potential candidate for that kind of role, since he was good for us and is currently, as far as I know, unemployed.
Interesting idea MAJR Frank Burrows was PFC manager on two occasions, and is only 69 years of age. Does he still live down South, or has he returned to Scotland I wonder ?
Have to say I was bitterly disappointed with our performance on Saturday :-( I thought we lacked any real approach to the game, considering several news reports quoted GW as stating he wanted pompey to play good football, I wonder what he means now, because hoofing a ball to big pat every time, is not my idea of good footy! I am utterly amazed that he did not pull those players in at half time, re organise and get them playing the ball, keeping possession and working the flanks where we have pace and skill on the ball.........NO we bloody hoof it up in the air and play long ball for another 45+ mins and get suckered with an own goal! I have real respect for GW, he has the club at heart......but not with standing we are just a few games in cant help wonder whether he really has the metal to get these boys fired up.........it could be a long cold, hard winter unless we see some results in the next 6 games!
