yeah, lets call it a day on this discussion/argument SG, we all go a bit crazy during games like that, myself included. I didn't mean anything by my earlier comment, it came across harsher than i meant but it was a bit hectic
Thought we made the subs later than we should've, Eriksen was working his arse off closing down alongside Soldado all game and you could see they were both tired so Holtby in particular should have come on earlier. Kane cutting in from the left never really looked like working, they had Sigurdsson's number all game doing the samething so I'd have put him up top where he could give us some height. Not great today as I said but I expect our attack to be a bit inconsistent in the early days but at the back we were a bit of a mess at times and that was really disappointing to see.
lets all praise our defence though. Was that a game without a shot on target? I think it was. Amazing work ethic in the team/squad, love it.
I know I called AVB a clown last season, but, then again, most of us agreed that he was. He learned his lessons, and the rest has been pretty impressive. Even if this match had ended 0-0, I would have taken it with a smile. Not many teams are going to go to Cardiff and take three points this season. In the end, the win is a superb achievement, especially bearing in mind that a lot of players are still finding their feet in the squad and the league.
26 shots. 1 goal. That is utterly **** but we won so let's take it. If we're dragging out 3 points playing like that, then I'm excited to see what will happen when we actually start to play well! Lots of chances but very obvious how little understanding there is in that forward 3 or 4.
Pleased with the bottom line result (win, another shut-out) . But there is still much more work to do, and to come, from this squad.
62% compared to 38%, how did Cardiff deserve to draw? 24 shots at goal and we score one in injury time. I was going to post that Cardiff beat City who are sitting 2nd after thrashing Utd but they drew with us so a draw would have been good for us. A win in the circumstances is brilliant.
29 shots with to 6 with 12 on target to 0 with 63% possession, according to the BBC. Really need to make the most of games where we're very much on top. Impressive overall performance, but it's clear that we've got a few things that need some work. Be interesting to see what kind of team we put out against Villa.
When ManU grind out a 1-0 win in a match when the result should have been 0-0 and they are playing badly, all the pundits can do is praise United for doing so. In a match that Spurs dominated and could easily have won if any of a hatfull of shots on target had gone in, all the commentators can say is how well Cardiff are defending. We dominated the game so we deserve the win. There are (as usual) a lot of bizarre comments on here on the lines of 'we didn't dominate enough so a draw is a fair result'. No, for once, the result was fair.
Totally agree. (Just to finish of the previous discussion on subs....he may be thinking of using Holtby and Lamela on Tues, if he does then I can understand the late subs....and he will still have got away with one ) Can't believe how tight we are defensively. Best in the league now.
A win on tuesday, with another shut-out together with a Defoe hat-trick (to make his point) will set us up nicely for Chelsky (a COSH would be even better ) .
I thought he looked pretty bright, actually. Kept possession well, fed a few decent balls around, closed down effectively, had a decent shot... I know what you mean, but Lamela going wide on that side didn't work, either. We need a left-footed left-back in this system, rather unsurprisingly.
Too many creative midfielders and not enough strikers/finishers will be your undoing this season I think. 29 shots and only one goal proves that
Good point, possibly true. They are young too so have a better chance of recovering in time compared to the players in their late 20s/30s. We did it to a certain extent last season with the late goals, but it was all Bale. If we continue to push to the very end of games and regularly nick late goals it is a massive thing to have in your locker and will give belief to the team that the game is never over til its over. Thats the sort of thing that Chelsea/Utd have been so good at over the last decade, they just BELIEVE they will win. This is as close to having that as i've ever witnessed at Spurs
Delightful goal. Excellent from Holtby, perfect cross from Lamela, and the kind of finish to beat a keeper having a great day.
Think we'll be fine when everyone's gelled and we have a few of our options back. Still a very new side.
Agreed, but we're not good enough to beat everyone comfortably, i don't think any team ever has been. I'm not saying we should just score late goals, but the players knowing we have it should keep their heads up when before they may have dropped.
