It's a bit unfair to say that the team has earned him those titles... The car is quick, Vettel is quick... together they are untouchable.
Pretty sure you meant 2000-2004 there right? It was those years where Schumi won the majority of his titles and dominated on and off in the Ferrari. Also, gotta agree with Sarge here. Vettel has had the best car and the backing of the team, but you still have to go out and drive the damn thing. I'd be all for Alonso and Hamilton having more equal machinery just to see how Vettel would do, but I honestly think he'd still be right there.
Liked the beach towel comment...worthy of Jimmy Carr. I think the season is decided so other than an opportunity to relax when watching the rest of the season is going to be boring although the commentators will find something to talk about. Guess we have the prep for next season to enjoy.
The championship is all but over... but we may still get some exciting races, so not time to throw in the towel just yet. Anyway... It's not so bad if Vettel is romping away in the lead if there's somewhat of a race behind him... but that has been lacking in the last couple of races too.
Fair to say the answer to the threads question is yes Frankly the issue is that everything about the way Vettel wins is stale. From the being out of DRS by lap 2 to hearing "Well done seb you've won the <insert name here> grand prix, well done enjoy it" as he crosses the line. Very rarely do his victories take place outside of a hopelessly dull race and people are fed up of it.
The issue is that a lot of real motorsport fans prefer series like WEC now, leaving F1 with the hysterical, Jerry Springer style audience attracted by the various gimmicks. Vettel's performance today can hardly be described as stale, it was a devastating show of pace which has never been seen before in the Pirelli era. Vettel was the only guy racing today, Rosberg summed up the mentality of the others when he radioed in saying "why do I have to push, I don't want to push any more than I have to".
I don't know how many others have the same opinion as me but I don't dislike Vettel, he's almost as likeable as a egotistical F1 driver can be. The only problem is the ease in which he seems to win most races. Its entirely the other teams fault for not being as good as Vettel and the Red Bulls but its much easier to single out one person in the heat of the moment
You think Vettel is 2 seconds a lap faster than Alonso or Hamilton? That car since the tyres have been changed is IMO up there with the 88 McLaren and 04 Ferrari in terms dominance. Vettel was hardly pushing all that much either. Most of the time he was maintaining the gap or just building it to exactly what he needed it to be. Rosberg was only saying that because he new it was physically impossible to beat the Red Bull, so he was driving to what he needed to go for second.
Out of curiosity, what exactly defines a "real" motorsport fan? Today, Vettel had an incredible advantage and it was just tedious. Turn 2 to the flag he had the win, he was able to get a pitstop over the people behind him after the safety car went in. Just like in 2011 he has a huge advantage even over his team-mate (in 2011 Webber couldn't use the blown diffuser, it looks the same this year, not helped by his reliability issues) and 2 seconds a lap isn't an advantage that can solely be attributed to Vettel's desire to push.
You think the Red Bull is two seconds quicker than the Ferrari or Mercedes? Vettel was obviously pushing for 15 laps after the restart, and he was the only one who was.
Vettel loves these kind of tracks though, can't single out the car when even at Valencia last year in a bad car he was crushing the field.
Yes i do, or at least fairly close to it. I can accept that Vettel is obviously very good, but i refuse to believe than anyone could tank a field containing 4 other world champions like that without a significant car advantage. 1.5 seconds at least. After Rosberg ran wide at the start, Vettel would have needed to drive one of the worst races of his career to lose the race and everyone watching new that. Nobody pushed 100% all the time, it doesn't even happen in Qualifying. Vettel had a lot more room to save fuel and tyres to push later given that his coasting speed was what the others were doing flat out. Besides, even assuming Vettel was more aggressive it still wouldn't account for more than a quarter of the gap.
I have a small problem with the booing, but... If they're not careful this could end the podiums being scrapped for the safety of the drivers. Think about it what's next after verbal insults? Football seems to like throwing coins at players they don't like and it's not unbelievable to think somebody will do it to a driver sooner than later. If it was found Vettel had an object hit him in the face and blind him in one eye that will just ruin it for all of us which is the real problem with this aggression. The reasons for drivers being separated further and further from the fans is being proven a correct course of action by the FIA and FOM to never let this happen to a driver and these "fans" will soon completely isolate themselves from the drivers. At Spa a group of people stopped Marks car, opened his door and tried to drag him out because they're fanatic f1 fans and security is crap at tracks in mainland Europe and there are so many holes in all security on tracks. Very scary stuff in my opinion!
I don't believe this booing is a reflection on how people feel about Vettel on a personal level... It could be any driver in his position and they'd be getting similar treatment. It's to a point where F1 really has become quite dull and many races follow exactly the same script. The drama is limited, the theatre is lacking, and I can imagine that it's even quite dull if you're a Vettel fan too, since all you see of him during the race is the start, pit stops and then him crossing the line. The thing is...It's not his fault.. The other teams need to sort themselves out and get after RBR. Oh... I should probably add that it's about time the booing stopped though. It's getting too much... and as for hurling expletives at drivers on the podium, that's just ridiculous.
To be honest I wasn't very interested this weekend as I knew this Gearbox rubbish for Seb was a non-story.
I'm wondering if all this booing could start to have an effect in other ways. F1 after all is a commercial sport and no brand wants to see itself getting booed. Lots of companies try to associate themselves with Vettel and Red Bull but thats no use if no one likes either of those two. There's talk of real fans but what is a real fan, and does the sport really care about real fans or about the money going in its pocket? TV companies as well as already struggling to stoke up interest in the rest of the season with Skys viewing figures becoming an embarrassment. We all know that no one in the sport really cares about us lot who watch the sport for enjoyment, but they may care if a increasing number take their £'s elsewhere?
F1 hasn't cared about the real fans for many, many years. It's a money making machine... mostly for a single individual.
