CH indicated in his post match interview that he expected RvW to take the penalty without saying that he was the designated taker. But the indications from him were that this is so. In which case what will he do about Snodgrass and his apparent disregard for instructions. He should be dropped for at least one match for disciplinary reasons, though he should be dropped for playing reasons anyway.
Snodgrass was atrocious yesterday especially in the first half, he just looked like he couldn't be arsed at times, giving the ball away and not trying to track back just being petulant and trying to win free kicks that were not. I have heard that hughton has been sacked and it will be announced this morning, but I am not sure if it is true.
Should always be the number 9 in my opinion your most confident player who is used to places shots efficiently.
The quote from Hughton implies he expected RVW to take it, not that he specifically instructed RVW must take it. As someone pointed out in another thread, under Lambert Hoolahan and Holt decided between themselves sometimes. Anyway as I've said, it was an ok penalty by Snodders, just brilliantly (and illegally) saved by Guzan but nobody wants to think about that because they would rather just slate Hughton and the players. Some people need to consider that RVW could have missed the penalty too.
It was in no way a good penalty. Perfect height and pace. All the goalie had to do was guess the direction. And RvW may well have scored. At least he is an experienced penalty taker.
this point has already been covered i see, but most clubs choose to let the players sort out penalty takers by themselves. sometimes a player who usually takes penalties might not fancy it, not be in the right frame of mind, so its rare for a manager to assign duties, indeed i've never heard of a single manager do this. this is why hughton assumed rvw would take it. rvw should have taken it but snodgrass probably felt his form was poor and felt a goal might spruce him up a bit, get him going and was straight to the front of the queue. i don't think he'll be taking the next one, not that we'll get another one, knowing our luck...!
I didn't say it was 'good' but it wasn't terrible. It took a great save to keep it out and let's not forget Guzan left his line before Snodgrass touched the ball.
