Defending was not good for the goal, the defence were stretched garrido and Martin were pushing forward while we tried to get a goal. I thought we looked ok defensively other than that, Bennett was solid when he came on
We were very lucky not to be 2 nil down in the first 10 minutes. Villa looked dangerous every time they came forward, we on the other hand were just pumping pointless and poor crosses into the box to close to Guzan. We look totally toothless in attack and substantial investment has not changed it. It is a football philosophy problem from our manager not a formation or player problem. We have zero endeavour in the final third and struggle upfront as all our players are lying so deep when we attack so our forward players are stranded. Not sure where to go with this. I was very dissapointed with us today and the lack of quality in the final third even though we have invested heavily in the summer I am afraid that the manager has to take responsibility for the results as it is now his team that he has built whilst spending a lot of money. It is time to start seeing better performances and the team to get results. Everyone is seeing Cardiff as the next must win match but I would go so far as to say that Stoke is more important than that match as clearly our home results cannot be relied on totally and we will need to take points away from home. CH could learn a lot from Villas approach to this game, get in the opponents face, keep the home fans quiet and smash and grab.
And thanks, wasn't really a hard decision! Lived in Suffolk my whole life but always been a Norwich fan! Get some stick walking around in a Norwich shirt but it's a good laugh!
inverted wingers? maybe has something to do with our players form? Sorry the buck stops at hughton not the players, he assembled this team, if the team is unbalanced and not playing as a unit thats down to him, individual 'quality' players worth xyz means nothing if they cannot play as a TEAM.
You can't regard inverted wingers as playing players out of position. It's a tactic used all the time by some very decent clubs and players. A lot of Norwich fans seem to have an issue with it and I dont know why. Clearly it worked out last year because Snodgrass was a contender for player of the season.
People seem to have very selective memories! If it wasn't for a string of excellent saves from Ruddy, we would have been about 3 nil down before Villa's goal! We were defensively atrocious before half time, were people not paying any attention?!?!?
OK, do you want me to say we defended excellently with the exception of four defenders? Just because our goalkeeper was thankfully on form doesn't mean we weren't defensively disastrous. Besides, further up the page, someone said they only remember Ruddy making one save...
