Thanks kindly...how that one didn't end up 2-2 or 3-2 one way or the other is beyond me. Best of luck, and I have a feeling that the team that comes to St Mary's in March will bring a bit of a chip on their shoulder.

Well Clyne is 22. And lets hope the other 2 are still here at 22.

A few times too many for my liking. His major flaw I think is he sometimes feathers his passes too much and ends up playing hospital passes. In fairness, that also happened several times to him and he used his physical strength to still make something out of it when Cork probably would have lost it.

I said before the game I felt that Cork should start today, so it's not like I'm just totally in love with Wanyama. But the moaning is kind of ridiculous. The ball that he gave away that led to the should-be penalty was definitely bad. It led to a dangerous situation. But the majority of the fault really belongs to Lovren as that was a foolish foul. No one is talking about that though, because Lovren scored. Not that I'm really blaming Lovren either. They both made mistakes on that play; it happens.

If MP decides to start Cork over Wanyama going forward I have no problem with that as Cork is also a fine player. I just don't get all the carping over Wanyama, as if he cost Saints the game. We won 1-0. We played well overall, including Wanyama. Maybe Cork would have been better, but Wanyama got the job done. It was a clean sheet against an in-form team, how bad could we have been.

Everyone should be happy, but it seems like we always have to single out a player to criticize.

Clyne was absolutely magnificent today, he really needs to start getting his due because with Shaw (rightfully) attracting a fair amount of nationwide attention, Nat gets left in his shadow a bit, despite for my money playing better than him every step of the way, though obviously with a few more years experience under his belt.

Gerrard looked past it today I thought. Sterling is a poor mans Walcott from 2/3 years ago, a whole lot of pace but zero ability, Shaw dealt with him well.

Lovren looks like a champions league player if ever I saw one.

Good point. Well, imagine what he will be like when he hits his peak. Whenever that is.

I really do see all these players staying.

Wanyama's pass completion was 70%, which was below the team average of 72% - not good enough for a CM in a possession playing side.

The main difference is we'll have Suarez and Coutinho in the team (hopefully) and useless players like Aspas won't be playing!

Should be a different game completely.

But no doubting Southampton are a quality side with some excellent players - It really is a credit how far you've come over the past few years.

No it isn't. But that doesn't mean HE isn't good enough. His contribution is massive.

Oh, absolutely; honestly, Coutinho scares me more than Suarez at this point, because he and Sturridge seem to work together marvelously.

Not MOM cos only had 25 mins, but he was 9.5/10 for the short time he had. The defence today were very, very good. If I had to single one out, then Clyne by a whisker. As for Wanyama, again a liability at times. I'm all up for giving him time, but when you have Davis and Cork knocking on the door, you do have to wonder for how long he can continue in this form.

But for now, let's drink some beer.

With our depth at CM, we ought to be working Cork in anyway...doesn't need to mean Wanyama is dropped on form ne'er to return, just that we're rotating good players at a position where we have the luxury of doing so.

The same Coutinho and Suarez that took part in last seasons 3-1 defeat?
