I had a go about your thread which I still think was a bit early but after today where our players looked clueless disjointed and demotivated I'm of the opinion we need to do something and subbing Redmond not Snoddy and not allowing either to play on their natural side for one minute is rubbish
How can you claim Snodgrass should be subbed instead of Redmond. Redmond was offering zero threat that game whilst Snodgrass had his defender on toast. Today Hughton got his substitutions spot on.
Spot on. There were some impressive moves today. if RVW shot had sailed in rather than just passed the post, he headed rather than chested the ball, everyone would be waxing lyrical, another day 3 points would have been ours, I'm off to the pub, can't be arsed reading doom and gloom
I really didn't intend the thread to be a direct call for Hughton to go. I honestly did mean it as a sincere question of how long we should wait to see signs of long-term improvement in performance and give him the benefit of the doubt. I didn't actually think today was that bad, personally, and I think overall we were slightly unlucky to lose. The point is, though, that we could afford to lose the odd unlucky game at home if we offered any kind of threat away from home, which we don't. The home games become vital because the away results and performances are so dire, and I think the blame for that can be laid at his door. I am not saying I necessarily want him to go, but I think he must be in serious danger now. Stoke away, Chelsea home, Arsenal away, all look like games we will probably lose, and if that happens I think he will probably be gone.
Agreed, sadly they did not make a great difference mind. Pilks on for Redmond was spot on, an older and wiser head, also proven. I like NR but he is much further away from the finished article that Pilks is, and Pilks has some way to go yet.
Rubbish in the first half in front of us Snodgrass was useless and I am a big fan of his he is obviously not playing well and we should just stop all this inverted wingers tripe it don't work
I missed the first 30 minutes so can't comment on that period. The remainder of the fist half I saw and was not that impressed with Snoddy at all. However, in the 2nd half I thought he looked better than most others, not his normal menacing self, but certainly better. I can even recall a commentator remarking that Snodgrass had been our best player today! Not sure if I would have gone that far but I am struggling to think of someone significantly better.
We were all over villa today, can't remember a shot at ruddy apart from the goal. Crap defending for the goal, just needed the wolf or Hooper to have shooting boots, or snoddy of course
Snodgrass has been a shadow of himself this season. All he has done is fall over, get petulant, and try to win ridiculous free kicks. He may have had his defender 'on toast' but he couldn't manage a single decent cross. In fact I don't remember him delivering a single decent cross all season. He is still trying very hard, I admit, but he is badly out of form and he needs a spell in the reserves. As for the penalty, I want to kick his ****ing arse. I think I read somewhere that RvW has never missed a penalty in a competitive game (maybe I imagined that?), so what the hell was Snodgrass doing taking it in the first place? He is looking like a prat, and a spell out of the team might make him think a little.
I agree, Snodgrass looked well of the pace and did not track back to help cover defence, ok he carried a threat going forward but it is not the only job of a modern day winger. He seemed slow and cumbersome and frankly at times disinterested in exerting himself in the first half. I agree Redmond should have been taken off as he was teamed up on and smothered and lacks a bit of physicality that premier league football demands. It was quite painful watching Snodgrass try and get onto his favoured foot, I think the inverted winger situation is a hinderance at time tbh. Service is still poor and most of the balls in the box had very little pace, were poorly placed and to close to Guzan. Villa have a better manager than us I am afraid, who knows how to get a result and use the players at his disposal in the right way. Sorry but it is true.
Sorry Jarrold, but how can you say Snodders was useless? He beat his man the best part of a dozen times and linked up really well with the forwards, Rusty and others. Yes, his penalty wasn't the best and was saved and his final ball wasn't what we know he can deliver, but useless?!?
Yes, I agree with that. Lambert is simply a better manager than Hughton. There's no shame in that - he's a better manager than most. When the heat is on, he always gets the result. And that's the sign of a really first-rate manager. He's heading for the top.
I'm interested to know what people think that Hughton did wrong today. He put out a good team, we passed the ball around well, dominated the game. He can't physically come on the pitch and pass the ball to the strikers. Substitutions were good IMO. We have new strikers for the first time it will take a while for everyone to settle, but there were promising signs today
We were obviously watching different games dangerous as I have said I really like the guy but that performance in the first half was rubbish I can't see to well what he does to beat men in second half but all his crosses ended up harmlessly in the goalies hands
Nothing. And people know that deep down too. It's not Hughton's fault we couldn't take our chances and that we were caught out for one sloppy defensive moment. It is only because we lost to Lambert's Villa people are so annoyed.
You're right, they did pass the ball much, much better today. It was very close to the probable best XI we have, subs were fine - what does that leave? The answer is quite obvious really, and the same as last season - goals! or more to the point, creating good chances that can be converted in to goals. Now I am not sure whose fault that is, but alas it's a results business and results are not forthcoming, and more to the point don't look like coming in the short term (next 4 games). Our home game with Cardiff (on the presumption we get little or nothing from the next 3 league games), will be huge and nothing other than a win will be acceptable I suspect.
I would agree that the Cardiff game will be very important! Hughton has done what he can to provide goals, he has brought in 3 top quality strikers, it is up to the team to provide them with chances
slightly better crosses, better finishes, which could have easily happened and everyone would be singing a different hymn
agree totaly, but still think our defending was crap. rvw and hooper will come good i am sure. by the way, well done for supporting city in ipswichs back yard!
