That Everton kit was put on him for the photo by a family friend or uncle , his Dad went mad when he saw it. Tobes won't believe it, he would if it was an Everton player mind.

    *cough*

"I would be in the Panini enclosure at Goodison Park one week, singing and swaying on the Kop the next,” admitted Gerrard in his 2006 autobiography.

Read it again. I said put on him for the photo - why does that imply it's in someone's house? There's absolutely no reason for him to deny supporting Everton so why would he. Carra's blue through and through.

It was a joke mate, as it's obvious he was in an Everton kit at Goodison (nearest he'll ever get to the title btw)

    Oh & see post #65 <ok>

Not in my family mate, I can honestly say I don't know anyone who ever did that either (not disputing it happened like) but personally I just don't understand it. You were one or the other as far as my family was concerned & we were all (without exception) Blues.

Of course you were one or the other but so were your mates. 7 of you as kids 4 reds, 3 blues, aged about 11 - all go to Goodison and Anfield together. Same with my father in law when he was a lad. Wouldn't happen now with child safety etc. We got sent for messages on the bus when we 8 or 9, I couldn't even think about letting my children have done that [they're adults now]. Different society we live in now.

Back off topic. Found this on a website asking for Shankly memories on his 100th birthday.

"I had no family allegiance to LFC or the City, my Father did not like Football or Sport at all. ( nobodies perfect). I lived in Chester at the time and thankfully my Uncle from Helsby was a Liverpool football fan! He was one of those guys who were just as happy going to Goodison or Anfield to watch a decent game, so as a young kid he took me first to Goodison and then to Anfield.

I can’t remember the game, because of too many years gone by and because I was simply captivated by this guy in the dug out, with his mannerisms, and energy on the touchline. Looking back now this was a life defining moment for me.
So I became an very young Liverpool Supporter mainly because of William (Bill) Shankly rather than the Team or the Supporters on the Kop and for that I will be always grateful, to this great man..."

Growing up in the Northwest (not in Merseyside) in the 80s first question everyone always asked was "red or blue" meaning Liverpool or Everton. It was assumed you liked one or the other or both. (No one in the North supported united back then)

I picked Liverpool because I liked colour red better and most of my closer friends were red. Could just as easily ended up a blue... I think anyone our generation could have. Once high school hit lots of blues I knew switched to United because they were doing well. One followed linekar to become a Spurs fan.

When you're a kid... kids switch allegiences easily. There seemed a lot of overlap too... specially in my school where lots of people liked both mersey teams.

If I had access to Everton games as a kid... I'd go watch them. Heck if someone bought me a plane ticket and an Everton ticket today I'd go watch them...
