That is what I now believe. Obviously Liverpool away is a tough fixture and a real challenge for our team, but I also feel that we can get points off anyone on our day (ok...probably not Barcelona). We went ahead against ManU at SMS and played very well at Old Trafford. We took 4 points off Chelsea last season and, let's not forget, 3 points off City and Liverpool. Admittedly that was during our Red Arrows phase...but. now we are better defensively, we are hard to beat. Honestly, I expect us to lose in a close game, but would not be surprised at any other result either.
As i've said before, i thought last game we looked like scoring, but WHU's keeper was outstanding, and our decision making in the final third of the pitch was poor at times. We were better going forward than the last game, and i think our improvement will continue in the next game.
We have the second highest possession in the PL...the team concentrates on not losing the ball...the disadvantage of which is that sometimes we miss the opportunity to just have a pop. Don't feel that that phrase is in Mauricio's vocabulary (literally ).
The problem here is that Mignolet played a blinder for Sunderland in both our games last season, and looks to be on good form for Liverpool so far.
Southampton have allowed the opposition less shots on goal than any other Premier League side, with nine. Liverpool have allowed the most, with twenty-two in the opening four games.
Interesting stat I've just read on the BBC website, we have had the fewest shots on target against us of 9, whereas Liverpool have had the second most against them, 22. I think we have definitely tightened up defensively, but seem to be missing some of the fluidity in attack from last season. Edit: Beaten to it!!!
Well, it has happened before.. albeit over 30 years ago!
Until we start scoring, we could be the new Stoke- difficult to play against but not very dangerous. Once we can score 2 goals a game then people will fear playing us instead of just thinking it will be a tough game
I'm more pleased that Lawro has predicted us to lose than Bolt tipping us to win......... For the record, I think that we might just sneak a draw if we can avoid letting an early goal in...i'm going for a 1-1
