Absolutely. However, the real question is, should the captaincy make you an automatic starter...? that is not me calling for Gerrard to be dropped but I thought we lacked legs later on yesterday and maybe moving Henderson back and bringing Aspas on for Gerrard would have increased the work ethic? Obviously, we didn't get that choice following Ford's injury I also agree with MITO. Gerrard's not been the most vocal, he lead by example and it is only recently that this has hanged slightly IMO. The armband is just that, an armband. In truth, Carragher was the true leader on the pitch. IMO, we should have three or four captains on the pitch (and if we're talking about England then that should be six or seven) irrelevant of an armband. IMO, Toure, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard and Suarez are all leaders. You can count Skrtel and Sakho too since they both have captaincy experience but I suspect they won't be first team starts yet and they are behind the others in order of rank too.
Skrtel is a decent defender but he needs someone there to organise him. He is not a leader or talker. He didnt appear to give sakho much advice but would be ok with Agger or toure alongside him. In saying that...what a great tackle to deny Bony!
After a very good performance against Swansea. No one knows what Rodger is thinking. Toure and Skrtel CB? or Skrtel and ? or Toure and ?. Keep guessing.
Does it really matter who the captain is? If we made Borini our captain would we win any more or less? Assuming he wasn't loaned...
On current form CB's are probably Agger then Toure, Skrtel then Sahko with Wisdom/Kelly back up and Iroli untried yet. Think it's nice that we have 4 first players that won't be phased with stepping up and we also have 2 that can play on the left and 2 on the right for nice balance (not that having 2 left footers or 2 right footers will be a problem in my opinion). I would have taken £10mil for Skrtel in the summer and still think he'll probably be out the door in Jan or next summer if Sahko and Toure play well and Ilori shows potential. Hopefully he can play a few decent games before then and earn himself a good move and us some good money though. Until then and while he's playing for us, will always be supporting him
Only on here ATM, I'd go... Agger > Toure > Skrtel> Sakho > Wisdom > Kelly > Ilori > Coates Agger would be behind Toure if it wasn't for the vice-captaincy.
That's fair. I can see Kelly being shipped out end of this season or the next though. Rodgers (although claiming he's not ready) seems to favour Wisdom and just bought in another two CBs, both of whom are young.
I hope its not true as I really like Kelly but I fear the same. TBF, I'd be hypocritical if I said we should keep him considering my opinion on signing injury prone players
Rodgers prefers Wisdom to Kelly? What are you basing that on. Kelly has been injured for about a year now. Wisdom did not come in to the team until Kelly got injured. Rodgers has going to loan Wisdom out before Johnson got injured.
There was a couple of games were both were fit and he played Wisdom. Don't ask me when they were though
