I give up. Why do we let them off the hook in the second half? Somebody posted that Defoe is only good for half a season, he forgot to mention that he's only good for half a match like the whole team.
In other EL news tonight, the pie eaters of Wigan drew 0-0 (if Peter Herbert of the Association of Black Lawyers is reading - it's a joke- no offence to fat Wiganners is intended). They played Zulte-Waregem in Zulte. Or was it Waragem? Who knows? Pandurii Targu lost but Ludogorets Razgrad won. Kuban Krasnodar won too, but Pacos Ferreira lost. Chornomorets Odessa won - good old Chorno. Estoril Praia and Rijeka sadly lost but Thun won!! Sherriff Tiraspol drew. If anyone has any idea what I'm on about, please PM me.
We did enough to win...why should they be breaking sweat with a match on sunday and on tuesday and the following saturday? the only poor thing about tonight are the injuries to Dembele, Kaboul and rose.
Kaboul might be the knee swelling (which has to be managed) . Hoping he has pinged a muscle again thru sprinting around.
The whole team faded in the second half colin which is also a bad thing. I actually wanted to post before the match that it would be the same score as Swansea but didn't. Secretly I wanted to bury them and hope we do in the return leg. They're relegation candidates and we only managed three, NOT good.
Really lazy, lackluster, sloppy performance, punctuated by a horde of injuries, a bunch of unnecessary players starting and a handful of goals. Dull, lifeless and disinterested, though they got the job done. Almost a mirror image of the Norwich performance.
That was a hard watch, second half was dull. Defoe looked good, holtby put some good through balls and Sandro was a beast. He looked good going forward too. Thought lamela needs to try go past people though. Eriksons goal was class
Remember to apologise to the non-fat Wiganers as well. And the Jews and the purple people too, better make sure they're happy.
I hope the boss gives them one long bollocking tonight because to win this comp we MUST do better or we won't.
We passed it well when 0-0, kept possesion, managed to break down a team that I think we may have really struggled against under Harry, and kept another clean sheet. You can only beat what is in front of you, and once the game was won there was no need to lose control and go all out attack. Injuries aside we did exactly what was needed imo.
Jeez some of you lot. 3pts is all that matters against that lot. If we had scored 8 the same ones would be on here saying "why are they wasting energy with 2 games in quick succession". The injuries were a shame but other than that it is exactly the game we wanted for the 1st of 3 in 6 days, eg, 2nd gear
Positives: * Holtby starting to look like the player we thought we'd signed in January * Eriksen looking exactly like the player we were hoping for * Defoe getting a couple of goals, thus knocking some lazy tabloid reporting on the head for a few weeks * Sandro playing so well you'd forget he missed half of last season with a knee injury * Lamela getting 90 minutes and looking promising * Lloris barely having anything to do Negatives: * Injuries to Rose, Dembele and Kaboul * Chiriches' work permit still not confirmed - he likely would've played tonight if it had * Naughton still can't be trusted to back pass (he nearly let them in in the 67th minute with one) * The team slacking off for most of the second half * Halfway through the second half, I was on the verge of switching over to Paranormal Witness to get some tension
I would not be surprised if avb told them to relax in 2nd half as we were 2 up. It's a league situ not a 2 leg tie so extra goals and effort really don't matter.
