antidisestablishmentarianism is a very long word. It used to be the longest word in the Oxford English Dictionary but it has probably been overtaken by some technical term. I haven't seen it used before on this forum.
I think Cameron should stay out of it. He jumped into the Suarez bite row too. If Jewish Spurs fans are happy with it being chanted in the ground then that seems fair enough to let it carry on. Does the FA have any jurisdiction over what fans can and can't chant?
My eldest daughter could spell that when she was 10 The opportunities to use it don't arise that frequently
Told you my longest word had probably been superseded. Bet RHC's eldest daughter would have a problem spelling that now!
I don't think I could spell that if it was right in front of me. I'd have to copy and paste the ****er
That ****ing Cameron, look after the ****ing country instead of grabbing every ****ing opportunity to get your picture taken or comment on something that has ****all to do with your sodding eton ****, tommy rah rah, ****ing, ****tard, ****stain self!!!! i ****ing hate that ****! arrrgh god i hate him !!!
Couldn't you apply that the the 'N' word? Plenty of black people use that word in a friendly manner but there are also many that are offended by it. The Jewish fans chanting it may not be offended but that does not mean it doesn't offend other Jews.
Rappers maybe but while a word only has power if you give it power — power such as that of institutionalised racism - MLK's dream wasn't for white and black children to stand, hand-in-hand, saying "n" all day long. The dream was for no one, especially those who do not lay claim to the painful history and aftermath that comes with the word, to desire to bring back a symbol of racialised oppression. That's why the n word is different to the y word which we're only talking about being used in a closed stadium where it seems to have been used for years without anyone taking offence.
True but then, why are black people allowed to say "n" without it being questioned? TBH, I'm not that interested, just pointing out that you can't claim Jews aren't offended because they chant it. There will be some that are!
They're not 'allowed' to, they just do. For it not to be used it would have to be deemed illegal and I don't think any government could ban the use of a word. There are plenty of black organisations very vocal in opposition to its use. I don't particularly like the y chant but understand it's only used in context at WHL and has been for years and while there may be Jews outside who don't like it, they haven't spoken up yet.
There may be some inside too. They may feel it is pointless or that no one would listen etc. PS...I'm playing devil's advocate here. As I said, I'm not actually interested, I only read this thread for modding purposes
You're probably right. You always have a balanced view on matters from what I've seen and I'd like to think I do - so we are probably on the same page on this one
Because our society hasn't got a clue how or what rules to control itself with and runs scared of even the idea of offending a minority group. Hence we have a PC brigade who have morphed into some form cultural gestapo. This I believe is a direct result of the implementation of multi-culturalism. Therefore the majority are losing/have lost all of their reference points whilst appearing to have alien cultural references imposed upon it. The real truth is we no longer know who or what we are and therefore how we should act.
Not if your white, walk into a room full of black guy's and say that, see what happens,be ready for a long hospital stay!
Maybe in London. Maybe in the UK But I'm white and have used the 'N' word in a bar full of West Indian people in the Caribbean with no problem at all. It depends upon the context. There is no way we can survive as a society when the use of words is restricted to purely minority groups.
The word isn't the issue mate, it's the INTENT & the context that's the issue. If you use a word that has racial connotations in a situation where you are intending it to be offensive, that is totally different to the situation that you've mentioned there. Some Black people have chosen to reclaim that word for their own use, when used between themselves there is obviously no intent to offend or hurt the person addressed.
So are you telling me that if a black person says the 'N' word, no other black person would ever be offended? The context doesn't matter, it is down to people's opinion. Some people believe the 'N' word should be banished completely because of what it represents. Used in an aggressive manner or not, its the same word and there WILL be people that are offended regardless. Plus, what you said can be used for the Jewish situation too. As I said before, I have no interest in this topic of conversation, its been done to death of these boards. I only comment because I can see that there is no situation were using these words can be used without causing offence to at least one person.
