If SkySports is to believes, KN rejected a 2 year extension to his current deal which lasts another 2 years.

To me this was a decent offer. He is 29 this month and lets be honest, I think his legs only have another 2-3 years in them tops. He's not the most mobile of lads at the best of times.

Great player and leader and one of my favourite players, but the club are being sensible these days - will KN get offered a 5 year deal anywhere else at the age of 29??!?

He'll not get offered the same amount of years for the money we would have offered even if it was a pay cut - FACT.

I don't even know why it's such a issue at the minute, he has 2 years remaining so his contract can wait for now. The thing is, players who say they are willing to stay at the club for as long as they remain playing really weakens their hand when it comes to negotiations. They should just keep quiet.
Nolan isn't a worry at the moment though I don't think.

By the end of his current contract he wont be much worth to us with his playing qualities that will be left anyway.

Maybe, but Nolan is a very clever player, he can't lose pace that he hasn't got so don't think that side of his game will suffer. We are a different team with him in the side, we've proven that this season.

Big fan of Nolan myself and I agree with that point but I just dont think he will be much use to us when his contract expires, only time will tell I suppose.

One thing is for sure, trying to second guess anything under Ashley's time at the helm is impossible. But your probably right about nolan's worth by the time his contract runs out. keeping for the next 2 years at least though is a must.

Certainly Nolan will be well past it in my book in 2 seasons time, so wheres the issue? Hold on to him for the next two years and then let him go.

I'm not going to jump in on this too much as Sky Sports is notorious for the amount of bull they publish. Be interested to hear the club and skippers take on it before commenting. However if this was the case, it is slightly different to what we were told the other day. And my opinion would change slightly. They were saying he would not be offered any new contract the other day, and that negotiations had started then stopped. I was critical of this because the club should not mess folk around. If this is true I'd have to question Nolan. With two years left and the club offering a further two years, that would take him to 33 which I think is perfectly fair on the part of the club.

But as I said when this was first reported some news from the player and club would be better. Same with Barton, some comment from the club would be welcome.

This I disagree with. Contract negotiations should be happening in private, and Bartons Twitter nonsense doesn't help. If the club isn't offering a contract whatsoever I'd agree that a statement could be made, but if negotiations are ongoing (or not if Bartons agent isn't impressed) we rightly shouldn't know anything.

Nolan's a great player, and we are no where near as good without him. However, in two years time, we may have signed someone else to play his role (Cabaye possibly).

Colly - In Bartons case there is no contract offer. The club have withdrawn from all negotiations with him (according to Barton). We have his side of the story i.e. no contract on offer, but then we have his agent and his bizarre ramblings. I take no notice of his agent. But the club need to make a statement even if it is just to say we won't be offering him a contract for "fill in the blank" reason. They must have one and the fans have a right to know. With Nolan I can see where your coming from because we don't know whether negotiations are ongoing or not. We are being told that the club has broken off negotiations with him by the press. All they need to say is negotiations are still ongoing and we won't comment further until they are completed, or if they broken them off, what the reason is. All professionally run clubs do this. The reason being it stops the silly season in the press. Fans need to know what they are paying for, simple as that. And they have a right to. I don't want to know what's in every players contract, that's between them and their employer. But you can't look at a football club like any other business because you have one party who are like charitible donations to the club! The fans! So like you would with shareholders, you should keep them updated of developments with regards contracts and what stage they're at. Offer made, ongoing negotiations or broken off. Don't get me started on twitter I think it's utter garbage. Why anyone gives two hoots about someone famous making a slice of toast is beyond me.

But thats the thing, all we have is Bartons agents "there is no contract on offer" from weeks ago. We also heard rumours a contract was on the table in January and that the length was an issue. Thats why I feel theres more going on than has been (poorly) reported, and given that we're only into June now I'm willing to sit back and let events take their course one way or the other. Its only in recent years that Twitter and Sky Sports News needing to fill airtime that we suddenly have a ridiculous amount of daft gossip flying around in early summer when most players are on holiday anyway!

Also, welcome to not606 Pouch, remember you from 606 for your ability to achieve more than three lines of opinion thats actually measured rather than nonsense...

  15. I don't get it. So Nolan is offered a two year extension, to take his current deal to four years, but Barton doesn't get a 4 year contract?

Barton is a much better player, and probably has another 4-5 years in him at the very least.

I was thinking that as well.

Interesting to see if the club will be 'held ransom' to these demands if it's true.

Nolan has already stated he wants Joey to get a new contract...
