The thin squad depth is starting to show, some of those players don't deserve to be on the starting 11.
We have been beyond woeful this half. If this is how we're playing against Marseille, we don't stand a chance in hell against Napoli and Dortmund.
Not a great first half, they have had more of the ball and closed better than us. We need to get and keep a hold of the ball for a bit and then we will grow into the game.We need to be better in the second half. They are physically very challenging - quick, strong etc... We need to battle harder to make sure we win the ball back when we lose posession. We have been sloppy with the ball and then not quick enough to get it back.
Marseille had lots of possession in dangerous areas but never really threatened. We're missing Cazorla..
We can still win this game, but fact is, this bare thin squad can't go on, today's game is showing how the lack of squad depth is hurting us, there's only so far we can continue to go.
They had 2 good chances, the header by Ginac, and Mert's interception. If they had a better striker, that header would've been 1-0.
Have to agree on both points. There attacking players have been poor in the final third but good closing the ball. We are missing Cazorla as well.
this ...they are like spurs .... they run around huffing and puffing but they are not threatening much. we can win this with a bit of class.
Dortmund losing 1-0 and Weidenfeller has been sent off. Hummels has gone off with an injury. I would take a draw here right now.
We will struggle until we get some players back from injury that much is clear. We'll see how we do with a couple of the guys back in a couple of weeks.
That half reminded me of this January when we were without Arteta for a period. If a team pressures us high up our own half, there's just no one that will confidently pick up the ball from Mert/Kos and calmly advance it forward. Which is why our ball retention has averaged about 2 seconds at a time.
