Seems that the government cut-backs have hit badly in Brighton. Care in the community seems to have been particulary impacted, some poor little dear has to get used to using his head-wand all on his own...bless the poor little bunny.

I'm really not that fussed about this deal, in fact I'm pretty happy. £1m minus the 20% is a very tidy sum for someone who got 4 goals and 4 assists last season. If he does develop the consistency he needs and does go on to bigger things (no guarantees) then we have a sell-on fee as well. I think Wichelow will do very well as a ready made replacement. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if his form and development may have prompted this deal. Everyone is suggesting that Malky will be upset by another sale, it could be he has sanctioned this.

borntobebhafc you start with something interesting and are then nasty. Then not like the reponse you get.

I hope Will Buckley does well for you but he is fragile and if Gustavo Poyet does not treat him well you may have problems.

Until then good luck for your team og farðu í rassgat

Malky never seemed that impressed with Buckley, though i could never understand why. Maybe something went on with Buckley that we don't know about. There's be a fair amount of pressure on Whichelow now though, but he looks good, i'm sure he'll rise to the challenge :)

Yes, but it would have been good to keep Buckley...for options. You're right though, Whichelow is more skillful.

My dads a Brighton fan - he'd be ashamed to be one with you and your derogative ways!

As for Buckley - he's got raw potential but never turns up for the full game. We shall see who gets the best deal...

I think £1m is a good price for someone who has potential but is nowehre near showing it yet! He had a good run of half a dozen or so games, but that's been about it. He can't play a whole game, falls down too easily and for a winger, should have better assists stats!

He may be worth more in the future, but not for a good 2 or 3 years at least! Just a shame it's a low percentage, and probably a percentage on profit, not the sale!

WB showed promise but I fear too light weight for the hustle and bustle of the Championship! The same with young Bryan,I know wingers need to be fleet of foot but these young guys need to build up their upper body strength so they can push back (pardon the pun) when they are leaned into!

I think Gus Poyet's quote in The Argus showed why this deal is happening for this price:

Paraphrased as I can't be bothered to find it again...

"When we played them [Watford] in the FA Cup, I watched their previous 3 or 4 games and Will Buckley played very well".

What amuses me most is the term "where we deserve to be".

Southampton seem to be one of 30+ clubs derserving to be in the Prem - I maybe mistaken, but there are just 20 places available.

Brighton seem to be one of 40 or so clubs who reckon the 2nd level is their place. I think Notts County have also been talking this one up. It is true there are more than 30 clubs in the 2nd and 3rd levels with bigger budgets than us, but we have been defying the odds for all but 2 of the last 30 odd years.

Mind you there are some clowns on this board who believe Watford should be heading for the Prem. The circus seems to have stopped in Watford!!!!! I only hope the pantomime doesn't hit Vic rd come the winter.

Back to this thread - Brighton have met our valuation of Buckley in this "summer sale extravaganza". I only hope the cash raised has met certain targets and the pressure is now off the finances.

What that means is if any club fancies any of the other players, they will now need to pay "Over the odds" for our remaining players.

Not sure I share your optimism with regard to that last remark, Elixir.

I still reckon that, in Bazzini's eyes, all of our squad are fair game. I would certainly hope, however, that you are right and that these sales have alleviated any immediate pressure. Let's hope that the only bargains at Vicarage Road this summer are arrivals and not departures.

I know we need the money, but i cant see the attraction for Buckley. They are just as likely if not more lieky to get relegated next season so its not the level of football. Its not like he was a bench warmer as such, i know he was a little at the end of last season, but i would think he was ahead of plenty of others in the pecking order. Surely it is a step backwards? Can anyone explain this to me?
