    Liverpool vSouthampton

    21 Sep 2013 15:00 Barclays Premier League

    Officials -

OK so Saturday sees us travel to meet the current league leaders and although we have a resonable record against them at home we don't normally get much from our visits to Anfield. Our last win there was in Dec 2004 2-1 and I'd settle for that again on Saturday!

Liverpool come into the game in great form but it's in our favour that Coutinho is out and Suarez is still banned. People are beginning toi talk about the Reds as being genuine title contenders but I think it's far too early for that. That said it will be a very tough game and we will have to play at our best to come away with any points.

For Saints I'm hoping that bar Fox we have a full squad to choose from. Hopefuly Luke's injury was minor. For me we need to win the midfield if we are to stand a chance so taking into account some of the discussions on the team thread I'd now go with

    Boruc

    Clyne Lovren Fonte Shaw

    Cork Victor

    Gaston Rickie Morgan

    Osvaldo

Subs Kelvin, Maya, Chambers, JWP, Adam, Jrod, Guly

Shows the strength of the squad when players like Davis, Lee and Jos can't even get on the bench!

    COYR!

Coutinho is a blow. We have other options, but he is special. I still fancy a win though, but it'll be tight. 2 - 1 to the Reds <ok> Let's hope it's a good game and we can manage a full 90 minutes this time <laugh>

Cork and Victor would be too negative for me, though would offer excellent cover if Shaw and Clyne pushed up. Morgan really impressed me when he pushed up against Spam. Could well see one of the young speedsters Rowe or isgrove on the bench as the pool defence looked somewhat shaky against the speed of Rutledge

Not sure about this one really, hoping we can get ahead and go for more goals rather than sitting on a 1 goal fecking lead again - ****s!

We dealt very well with Coutinho last season (was subbed after 60 mins), however his replacement will be Moses who was the only player that Shaw was second best to last season. Coutinho is looking to be a very special player though, sees the quick pass which is something we really lack

I was giving it the big I am at work and was forced to put my money where my mouth is so we need to win or I'm a tenner down. Let's hope the likes of J Rod and Osvaldo have their shooting boots on for this one. I would like to see same line up as Sunday, maybe with JWP on for Ad.

I'm confident we can give a good performance up there and maybe pick up a result. I would like to see us have a real go at Liverpool, rather than going their with fear and hoping for a point.

That Osvaldo fella looks a good player along with Lambert, we'll need to be on top form if we want 3 points.

  13. With Ford out and Suarez serving his last game of the suspension, we severely lack creativity for this one. We will either put I hope in Allen in the AM role or switch the formation from 4231 to 433 introducing Sterling or Aspas and moving Henderson inside. Personally, I'd prefer the latter with Sterling but I think BR will go with Allen.

After the stuff in the media today regarding title talk from BR (quotes suggest otherwise though), I fully expect us to **** up in this one. There was a few mentions of second place and top four last season when we'd won a couple, we lost the next game every time. Wish we'd just keep our gobs shut <doh>

If Liverpool beat Swansea then I'd think that they're due a slip up eventually (like last season against us ;)), but I'd be very surprised if we don't lose. I think we will get a goal though, and if/when Liverpool score, I want a Sturridge hat-trick for my FF team. <ok>

Good to have a bit of cross board discussion. We're all hoping that 'pool come and attack us, we thrive on teams that play football. Can't stand bloody negative defensive teams. Im predicting a toe to toe match, a good ol slug-fest. Unfortunately we'll be lucky to draw this. If you get a 1-0 lead I would sit back and defend it- we haven't quite worked out how to break teams down.

I think that Saints have improved to the point where you can never say never, but obviously our chances are lower against some teams than others especially away. I am hoping that Liverpool's style suits us better than more defensively minded teams. Our defence has improved as well. Hoping for a really good game, but a draw would be a good result. Suspect it will be a loss by the odd goal. COYR.

  17. Well, you can bet your house that we won't sit back <laugh>

If we go into the second half with a lead, you may get your second wish too.

I think sai ts will play some good footbal but liverpool will win 2-0. We have a few important players out atm but after watching the saints against west ham i dont think they have enough in the tank to win.....unless they park the bus first half then go all out attack after 60mins as this season we have faded badly in the second half. Either way I hope for a good game. :)

Can guarantee we won't park a bus, although our defence is quite good. Southampton fans are prone to heart attacks if the ball starts ping ponging round the box,,,,so out of consideration for us older ones they try to play further up the pitch.
