The Reds will aim to maintain their lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League table with victory over the Saints. Last season's corresponding fixture ended 1-0 in Liverpool's favour. - Liverpool have made a very bright start to the season, winning three and drawing one of their opening four games. Striker Daniel Sturridge has lead the show so far, scoring in each of the four opening games. Victor Moses is Liverpool's only other goal scorer this season following his goal on his debut on Monday. Liverpool have kept three clean sheets so far this season, conceding only two goals. Both against Swansea on Monday. Luis Suarez will be sitting out the last match of his 10 match ban. Liverpool are top of the Premier League with 10 points. - Southampton will be looking to improve on their goalless draw against West Ham on Sunday. Southampton have had a mixed start to the season but of plenty to feel positive about. From their first 4 games they have one win, two draws and one defeat. Southampton are still settling into life under new boss Pochettino, but with some impressive summer signings they could be a much harder task than they look on paper. Southampton are 11th in the Premier League with 5 points. - Test to see who's reading - Post three badgers. - Injuries: Liverpool: Coutinho: Shoulder Agger: Rib Johnson: Ankle Kelly: Not match fit Allen: Hamstring Cissokho: Ankle Southampton: Shaw: Ankle/Foot Injury Fox: Ankle/Foot Injury please log in to view this image
Morning all! Should be a good game and I'm feeling my usual pre match optimism. A 2-1 win for us with Osvaldo scoring his first Saints goal. We've been playing reasonably well just not taking our chances.I know you are on a good run but I still think we can justl edge it.
I think Southampton will be a tough game. Despite their results, they've played some good football so far this year. They bought well in the summer and have a few players trying to settle in. IMO, if they play to their potential they could get a result here. We need to perform and play well for ninety minutes, something we are yet to do this season. Hopefully, Coutinho will be fit for the game but if not, I'd like to see us bring Sterling in and switch to a 433: Migs Wisdom - Skrtel - Toure - Enrique Gerrard - Lucas - Henderson Sterling - Studge - Moses If Johnson and/or Agger are back then they play instead of Wisdom and/or Skrtel respectively.
Last league game without Suarez (and possibility Coutinho will miss the game) so a chance for a couple of players to stake a claim for a place. I was impressed with Moses on Monday so think he deserves another shot. Kelly might come back in at RB and Toure for Skrtel although Skrtel's played well in his two games. Saints I think will be dangerous on the break. Good passing team with pace from the wide players but if we can put two good halfs together (yes second half as well please Reds) I think we'll take the 3 points. Looking forward to it
WTF? I think Skrtel deserves to keep his place, he's played well in the last two games and Sakho look a bit too lively on Monday. In a game that will lack creativity (no Suarez or Coutinho) we need to be solid at the back.
thre f's? I have a really great idea for how we can deal with Coutinho's absence. What we do is we bring in Joe Allen in the AM role behind the front three. With Allen's brilliant pass and move skills and brilliant vision he should be able to help us dominate possession in the opposition half. Also, with his ability to turn over Yaya Toure he should give us a real big physical presence is midfield. The front three will love the service!
Would prefer Toure and Agger at the back if both fully fit. I think Moses deserves a start and provided us with a direct option using his pace and power. Could and should have got an assist along with his goal.
