I've had a long, boring day revising so i thought i'd try and get some thoughts on here about who you think the most under-appreciated players we've had at Anfield in the recent past have been and why you think they didnt get the credit or recognition they deserved. Two quick ones off the top of my head are Steve Finnan and Alvaro Arbeloa, two very solid player, nothing flashy, just good defenders. I remember Arbeloa on his debut keeping a young Messi out of our champions league tie with them, even though playing at left back out of his natural position. Thoughts? YNWA
great mentions, two of the most consistent players in a red shirt while with us yet received appraisal very rarely. What about Stephane Henchoz him and big sami were brutal at the back but you very rarely see Henchoz mentioned now
I agree with all the ones said above, and will add Cisse. Cisse wasnt given a fair go by Rafa, but his goals to game ratio was great, and a lot of the time from the bench. He could have achieved great things with more games and no leg break. From the current squad im going to say Skrtel. He gets slated a lot but I think he is a solid defender and we'd be worse off with out him.
Carragher is under appreciated by supporters from other clubs. Skrtel is currently under appreciated. Insua was always under appreciated to me, he was a damn sight better than Konchesky...
Henchoz is a good shout. Overlooked by Hyypia as he scored goals. Lucas and Kuyt are the most underated in my opinion 23 Carra - Welcome to the site mate!
I always thought Didi was underrated for his first few seasons with us. Obviously his pivotal role in turning the final around changed that but beforehand his consistently solid performances often seemed to go unnoticed, especially by commentators and so-called "experts".
another right back rob jones , was very under rated at the time not so much now <hindsight> ,vegard heggem , stig ,and westerveld.
Crouch, Kuyt, Lucas and Benayoun are all players my dad has eventually admitted he was wrong and I was right about. I agree on Insua. Could cross a ball better than Aaron Lennon at that age. David Ngog's had some unfair stick this season. He was thrown in as 2nd striker last season and handled it better than could've been expected for what was supposed to be a 4th striker. He's scored some Torres-like goals like the one against Arsenal this season, he's been one on one with Van der Sar and gubbed him, he's scored diving headers, he can turn a defender and for quite a while this season he was our top scorer. He's a good lad who's only going to get better, wherever he goes.
Yeah, I worry that he could well turn out to be decent if he goes (sure he will) the problem is can we afford to carry him if he does not improve.
i would put him out on loan to somebody like wigan where he would be the main point of the team and see how he gets on. If he was played regular i think he would score 10-12 goals a season but, i dont think his future lies at Liverpool, not good enough.
Maybe a loan as part of a deal for another player would work. Like you say, Wigan. N'Zogbia in, N'Gog out on loan? Peel a couple of letters off either shirt, and nobody would notice the difference until they started playing.
Sounds like a firm of solicitors who'd write to you to tell you the deposed president of the Democratic Republic of Congo has chosen you especially to be the recipient of his $300 million personal fortune if you send them your bank details.
Steve Nicol. For a lad that could eat like a horse and then run like the wind. And he could play multiple positions as well as each other.Vastly under-rated.
