This is. the strange thing though isn't it? Last year, all attack, no points first few games, this year, a bit of last year in first half get ahead, very pragmatic should we say negative 2nd half= results.

I joked this earlier but is it educating the team? Learn how to attack, how to defend, hold the ball then learn when to do it all at the right times in the right matches?

Or did BR look at our first fixtures, and all those round us & just say get the points any ugly way you can? Is he learning as a manager too?

Yea def. Really think we missed a trick on not attempting to sign eriksen. No way that could ever have been a bad move for the price e went for.

  6. Its not just in this game though, we've been letting players run beyond the midfield (hence me saying we need a designated DM) for the entire thirteen months BR has been in post, it most be his instructions. If that is the case then I'd imagine he also tells his CB's to keep their shape too (again, this has been evident for the last thirteen months IMO).

(And you try and convince yourself of that <whistle>)

After watching the 2nd half performance perhaps we need a couple of weeks concentrating on team fitness rather then TikiTaka. Frist half again unrecognisable to the second. Good swansea performance in the second half mind you.
Have to be happy with the point.

Williams was being a bit of a dick all night. Mouthing off to anyone and everyone, and that challenge on Coutinho was really sly. And he has the cheek to complain about Suarez..

It does frustrate me when I see midfielders just jog past Gerrard. This is why he is too lazy to play CM unless he's playing with Lucas and someone else who will do his running (Henderson) in the middle. Fabulous player with the ball, without it he's not all that great anymore unfortunately.

Perhaps our lack of energy in the 2nd half is just a matter of fitness and it will improve as the season goes on. At least we are seeing games out and getting points. I'm never happy with a point but Swansea are good at home and are an established PL team, they like to play the underdog but that simply is no longer the case.

Top of the league, bring on the next game.

  12. No. It was cynical but not a red <ok>

They players are learning but we have also improved the player staff over the summer. It was always going to take time to build something and that time is not over yet. It is also why I've been playing down this game for the last couple of weeks, it was obviously we couldn't sustain a winning run for ever and it is inevitable that Studge won't score in a game sooner rather than later too.

However, it is a nice 'strange'. Certainly better than last year yet we are still moaning and debating things <laugh>

If you responded to my comment, I didn't see it. However, I'll never agree to wishing injury on a player <ok>

<wah> now we're only invincible in the crappy Arsenal undefeated sense, not the win every game in the season sense :(

  14. Can't agree with that either <laugh>

I call Gerrard lazy but that is more to do with when he (or a teammate) loses the ball and he turns in disgust rather than chase a player that is no more than five yards away. However, he has been much better at this in the last six months.

IMO, letting players run past is down to the manager, not the players. It does not matter whether it is Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Shelvey or Spearing (when they were here), they all let the opposition go. this is why I am convinced it is the tactic; keep the shape!

I did say you're a better person than me in the same comment G! :D

I'm still seeing learning with the team rather than guessing; both players & manager. Frustrating at times but better than what BR was painted as; one plan wonder. He's not that. And for anyone saying "learning shouldn't happen at Liverpool" well, ....I disagree.

No, players need to take responsibility themselves in my opinion. Surely they know the more dangerous person is the one running towards goal! Unless they've specifically been told not to track runners, which I honestly can't see any manager telling their team to do, then there is no excuse.

That's two games running that Coutinho has the **** kicked out of him. I expected it from United, it's always been their tactic, even pre Moyes, but it looks like a long hard season ahead for him.

I think so, Gerrard takes up a position where he is ready to receive the ball again holding the shape of the team and not allowing to the opposition to force you back. We could get everyone behind the ball but then we'd never get out of our own half. Gerrard checks his positioning and moves into space ready to take control again.

That's my opinion anyway. <badger> Still top of the league.

  19. Learning should be happening at every single club in the world, you don't get anywhere by standing still, we of all clubs should know that <laugh>

We are in year two of five. Four games in, we sit top of the league with ten points, you can't ask for more than that IMO. My only concern comes with other fans getting carried away. We won't stroll to a title (most if not all realise this) but nor will we achieve top four with lady luck on our side, IMO there is a bump down to earth around the corner.

  20. Of course they know, but they are also given instructions by the manager. I believe BR has told them to keep their shape rather than run with the man unless it is absolutely necessary. I also think he has told the back line to keep its shape unless someone is looking to run in behind, this is where Sakho following his attacking caused a problem. Its not Sakho's fault, he's only just joined and need to learn the style.
