Just watching Swansea v Liverpool & amazed how well Swansea pass the ball around. It got me thinking that hopefully Hudds & Livermore playing that the others will pick up on it. On Saturday we had moments of passing but it was just either in our own half or around the halfway line. Still looked good but I'd like to see us do it more in the opposition half. I suppose it'll only be really attacking when we or the game is safe.
I don't think we have that much confidence to really open up and play. We played not to lose on Saturday.
I dunno how they do it they obviously have a better squad than us because they are so open yet defend pretty well. I don't think this is out o reach but when you look at Swansea and you see 5 players in liver pools box on the counter attack you understand how they score goals and you realise that's what Danny graham had. When do we ever have more than 3 players in box? When do we make teams panic? If elmo gets it on the wing we need players pushing in the box but the likes of koren aluko and Brady always seem to stay on the edge.
I don't want us to try and play possession football, tikka takka (whatever you want to call it), if we're not good enough to do it. What i mean is, Palace tried to pass it around their back 4 against Man Utd on Saturday, and came unstuck. Infact, it was almost shambolic. If you saw the MOTD highlights on Saturday you'll know what i mean. Shelvey did similar and got caught out for both Liverpool goals. I don't want us to change our style (if we have one) just to satisfy the footballing purists.
Posession football like that requires a comfortable on the ball defence with good passing ability, aside from Davies who I've not really watched closely while he's on the ball, we've got that and the midfield to go along with it. Don't see any reason why we couldn't.
I didn't get to the Cardiff game but the other 3 we have looked comfortable on the ball. The first half at Man Hunters we played the best passing football that I can remember seeing.
On Saturday we had some lovely passing streaks but ended up on many occasions giving the ball away cheaply at the end of the streak. Comes to mind that Elmo was guilty on a number of occasions.
Swansea gifted Liverpool two goals with their possession football. I'd sooner see us lump it the **** away from danger
I think its possession with direction. We saw it too often under NP\NB where we kept the ball but passed it along the back four. If a mistake is made there, you're buggered. Direct attack, whilst keeping possession is the art.
Yeah I'm happy with us getting it wide to Brady & Elmo and getting the crosses in! With the comfort that if its down the middle we've got Capable players to keep possession!
pity we don't have the likes of Dean Marney, Junior Lewis & James Harper in the middle to stroke it around with the ticky-tacky stuff..
Playing that kind of football takes a long time to master. Swansea have been playing possession football for years under different managers and every player they sign has to be able to pass the ball well. Brendan Rodgers is slowly bringing it into his Liverpool team but as seen yesterday, Swansea are miles better at it even though they dont have the better players.
Watching Man Utd tonight & even Leverkusen at times, I noticed they had a lot of space, which is something I don't really see us creating, most of our play is all in a jumbled mess of players & when it comes to anyone in space, it often seems to be extremly slow to get there or even behind the intended player. Just out of curiosity, do we have a small pitch compared to others? RVP tonight showed how to score a goal, he knows whe the goal is even when he's not looking, although the keeper should have saved it. Also Danny Graham can take some solace from both Rooney & RVP missing what most people would class as open goals.
