That's right Reg, court support from the majority by resorting to insults. Really thought that through, dintcha?
Not one of the suggestions I made would affect the team in any way; well, they would see that some supporters think the name-change is a crock of ****, but I would be willing to bet they think that anyway. I do agree that it will be nigh-on impossible to animate the apathetic supporters who see what Allam is doing as just one of those things.
I bet he's only been in touch with that Vincent Tan down at Cardiff- the Malaysian Duffen. The bloke who thinks it's all about him. Their bezzie mates act on sky sports was awful. You say the contact with other clubs may have made him change the clubs name- how can you compare our appeal world wide to the likes of Liverpool's. We just haven't got a leg to stand on. So please, can the "yes Mr Allam can do anything he likes to our club" please give us a decent reason for the name change, perhaps the Allams can produce a business plan. And by the way, before all this, i was fine with the Allam's. Even during the Barmby sacking saga.
This is what I put forward as ideas: “How about the crowd turning their backs at kick-off, or when a goal is scored; something that will be seen when the camera pans the stands. If everyone boycotted the match-day programs, food, drink and betting he would be made to focus where it matters to him - his commercial relationships. The Official Supporters Club and any other formally acknowledged supporter liaison should suspend all scheduled meetings of a routine nature until some acceptable form of consultation is put in place. The national supporters body (as involved in the bubble fiasco) should be an important part of this, as should invited elements of the media. We should be transparent of action and intent, peaceful in approach and collaborative with broader elements who show an interest in the key concerns we have - those key concerns should be carefully and clearly declared, so progress can be measured and seen to be achieved.” “The West Stand should all turn to face the Lack-of-Direction Box and big foam hands pointing the fickle-finger-of-fate would be a great move. This should be staged at a big gate occasion after some proper preparation and continued through to the new year. Non-cooperation from fans support groups - suspension of normal meetings, etc. are essential in expressing the disapproval of his current customers, the very people he should be working very hard to retain. He has made it a point of business strategy, so show the silly old fool that we understand our position - Gerald Ratner found out the hard way.”
So you're struggling to get 40 supporters to stand behind a banner, but getting the whole stand to synchronously turn their back should be a piece of cake in comparison.
The problem seems to be that while this has been going on for a month now, we haven't been able to discuss how to go forward with protesting it because every time it's mentioned on the forums it becomes a pissy debate about whether it is even worth protesting. The likes of tubby, patty, Diddy and Dazed are so determined to argue that it isn't worth protesting that everyone's energy is wasted on this pointless debate between ourselves. We should all have agreed long ago we need to do something about it and should be talking about how and what. To the likes of tubby and the others I mentioned above, how about you let it go? We all know you're against anyone doing anything, your point is made. There's nothing to achieve. Some of you have even admitted you don't want the name change so the rest of us are trying to fight on your behalf. Just let us get on with it. The debates on this topic no longer concern you if what you say is true.
I am not against ppl doing anything, don't get me wrong, however I just think that change can be good. Look at Cardiff as an example. I'm in the "suck it and see" camp. if it adversely affects the club, AA has to do an embarrassing climb down and change the name back. But to keep the name for emotive reasons? I trust a business man to make money.
So stop arguing then. If what you've just posted there is your stance then that's fine and it doesn't need to affect anyone else.
What i don't get with all this is the people who think it's ok to do away with the name, all seem to be saying, well if it was the colours, the nickname or the badge it would be different. Why is it? Hull City has been our name since we were formed, and it's older than the club's colours, the crest and the nickname. Infact it's the oldest thing about the club. Tradition would be in tatters if we did away with it.
To me Hull City AFC represents my community, it is part of me, like an extended family. The name represents all those supporters who struggled to keep the club alive since its formation. Its part of our collective heritage. It says my football club belongs to me and my community. It is not a business belonging to Allamhouse for it to do whatever it wants.
Firstly I am 100% against any name change, I have watch City since 1958 and have always called them City and will always continue to do so. As far as the Allams are concerned, and I have done business in Egypt for more than 30 years, so know a bit about their mentality, my feeling is that we can demonstrate all we like, but I fear this will not change Papa Allams mind. I feel he has taken a dislike to the name "City", because of the connection with "Hull City Council", and as I have said before, every time he sees these words on the KC stadium, I suspect it makes his blood boil. I personally feel that the best approach is via the Premier league, as it stands at the moment from what I understand, they have to agree to make any changes to the clubs name, and if enough of us lobby them, they will certainly take the fans seriously, I am sure of that. Therefore a campaign along these lines I feel will have more chance of succeeding, that making demonstrations, unless of cause you get a large part of the 20,000 regular supports all being on board, which from what I am seeing, they may not agree with the change of name, but to start marching etc, just is not what they are prepared to do.
well put it this way............. in HIS eyes he has to dis-associate himself with the council. he can either drop the word CITY, or he can move to Melton... now which one would you prefer?
100% right. It's not a business or a brand, like paperclips or screwdrivers, it's this city's football club ffs.
I spotted this and wondered what was to be safeguarded.....the Club's name? But, as I read it I saw that applicants were being invited to apply for a position, safeguarding youngsters and vulnerable adults. Very worthy, I felt. But then I spotted that the Club were referring to themselves as 'Hull City Tigers'!!!!! http://www.hullcityafc.net/news/article/201314-safeguarding-manager-job-vacancy-1057537.aspx?
