You've used a well-known journalistic strategy of picking your sample size purposefully to best suit your point. Contrarily I could say this:

    Last 88 league games: W: 36 D: 26 L: 26

Looks better now, eh? If you want to avoid confirmation bias (obviously you don't) then you'd only have a sample size of relevant games, which is really just the four so far this season.

I've seen the discussion on SaintsWeb, where they argue that if you take the purple patch of LFC, CFC and MCFC out of MP's reign, you get...

    Won - 3
    Drawn -9
    Lost - 6

They say that based on this they think Pochettino has not taken us to "the next level" and are underwhelmed with his management.

If you take out those draws as well... he got us relegated!

Well exactly, it's a moot point because if you took any certain games out of the equation, then his performance is altered.

When MP came, we looked a different team; a team that pressed higher and harder. Now we look a different team again; a team that is harder to beat. Somewhere between where we were and where we are is going to be about right.

I think our biggest problem is expectation. If you think we should be top 6 or top 8, then you'll be disappointed. If you think that we should be making progress steadily then you'll not be too disappointed. I'd have liked us to have won another game, but I expected 7/8 points from our first 6 games and with a defeat at Anfield and a tough win at home to Palace, we'll be on 8 points. It may be a hard earned point at Liverpool and a point at home to Palace, but I think it'll be about where my expectations were.

    Manage your expectations.

We look like a fairly solid Premier League team.

the last few games of last season were irrelevant then? The players and manager were just coasting so it didn't matter?

It didn't demonstrate an inability by the team to put in performances and get wins when we were expected to get 3 points? Bit like...errr... this season thus far.

Should ****ing hope so based upon over £50m spent in last year.

Today's game was probably as exciting as a "solid mid table premier encounter" gets. Oh joy, oh the majesty of the holy grail of the promised Premiership land.

    Back where we belong. Yay!

It was months ago, before several transfers, and yes, we were mid-table and it's typical for teams in those positions to end the season poorly.

Would you like to offer an explanation as to why the number 11 seemed like a good round number on which to base our form?

Pochettino can't control the fact that we are so wasteful. That isn't in the manager's hands. Much like it wasn't Adkins' fault that we were making so many individual defensive errors under him. The performances (in terms of who had more of the game) are clearly better under Pochettino even if the results have been similar to what they were with Adkins in the Premier League.

Because after the Norwich game I did back 10 games to the win over Reading, so if you exclude that its 1 win in 10, if that makes you happier. Wow, 1 in 10, what progress we are making.

Same manager, same Plan A, same no plan B.

True, but he should have the ability to spot trends in the game and make positive changes. Still struggling to see him as a manager effect the game from the sideline thus far.

I also struggle to see how we are better overall.

Simple question CBK. What do you expect us to do this season?

I think CBK would be happy if we won the championship every season and refused promotion based on principle

Ha-ha..! That is typical TSW logic. Why not take away all the wins..? It looks even worse that way. I tell you what, take away all the losses. Fantastic..! :)

This thread is interesting to me having posted a similar one yesterday. We had a difference of opinions on my thread yesterday Vin and today is similar in so much as I really struggle to see what was so enjoyable about today. As a 0-0 goes the game wasn't boring, as there were some good chances, good saves and a few tackles flying in. However, I didn't see anything in our performance today to get excited about whatsoever. It was a continuation of why I am concerned with our form.

We've got so used to playing well that now that we've had a consistent run of games where the fast, attacking football has gone it is disappointing.

I believe in this team and to be fair to Poch I thought the starting lineup was much better choice today, but when things weren't really happening I did look at the bench and wonder how we could improve anything. The only one who I really thought could create anything is Gaston who is massively inconsistent to the point where he didn't even get on.

Still can't see why Cork isn't involved at all again. Think he could have made a difference.

We just need to up the tempo.

So you didn't think the team were late out in the second half because MP had given them a good talking to? I thought we started the second half as though MP had had a few harsh words; the tempo was quicker and we created a few better chances. That in itself suggested he did something; doesn't always have to be a personnel change. We weren't great today, but to say there was nothing positive, is just negative :)

Agree with this. Thought overall we were by far the better team. On another day would have won 2-0. Thought JWP made a difference with his delivery late on.
