Softest of soft penalties (in this case outside the area but he made sure he fell inside the box) leads to a United penalty, a goal, and the sending off of the Crystal Palace player. Young's in danger of being stereotyped here!
Couldn't even manage to that for England. The results's gone but hopefully the FA will review if there's a case to answer (I haven't seen it).
That will not get overturned, it wasn't even a foul. Tell me what the defender did wrong, he was running in a straight line and young initiated contact, young should have been sent off. Also, shearer is a prick.
Just seen it on MotD. You have to say that Ashley Young remains the man we all know him to be. It also once again demonstrates that the home team generally gets the benefit of any doubt at Old Trafford. It seems that even when referees try to be fair, the sheer weight of 50/50 decisions means that he'll hand something to the Red Devils at some stage in the match, and that that will be a telling moment.
This will never stop because its a yellow card v red card, goal and game won. It needs to be a straight red for diving plus long bans.
I watched the game and thought that Ollie's Palace were really hard done by with Ashley Young's continued antics today. Gayle looks like a lively one for the future - he almost scored for Palace just before the penalty incident. Danny Dichio (below) on the commentary team discussed and mentioned with a video clip, how unfair the treatment of Shaun Derry was under similar circumstances, a dive > red card > penalty > goal > 10 men > game, set & match! please log in to view this image
Or you could fine the management team and they'll soon discourage the player. Or maybe make the manager sit the next game in the stands.
Its still worth doing then, you have to make the punishment for diving worse than the reward. You could use video evidence and give a three match ban, then four etc for each dive. Young would be lucky to play five games a season.
This would be the way forward in my opinion. That ****er Young should be made to explain himself on TV, shame the bastard!
Moyes has slagged him off in the papers today so maybe he'll just have to take a long look at himself. Good news for Wednesday night Ulloa has just been sent off!...
Surely it is now time to do something about this. Young is getting away with it all the time. Cheating scumbag. Time to introduce retrospective action as Flyer said. Starting at 3 games, and increasing for the 2nd/3rd/4th offence each time.
1354: RED CARD FOR BRIGHTON - Reading 0-0 Brighton Is it idiotic centre-forward day? Brighton striker Leonardo Ulloa gets himself sent-off as he goes in high on Reading defender Alex Pearce, studs into the chest of the defender, and he has to go. Referee Graham Scott - no relation to cleaning product guru Barry - had no choice there. Stupid challenge. Evens things up for the fakers - let's hope they give Brighton a good workout Still 0-0 watching live stream on Bet365 1347: RED CARD FOR READING - Reading 0-0 Brighton Dear oh dear! I mentioned players with poor temperament and it's Pavel Pogrebnyak who is sent off for Reading after just 32 minutes for diving! What on earth is going through his mind here, he's been booked already, it's his first league start of the season and he throws himself to the ground theatrically to earn a second yellow. Incredibly, he's still applauded off by some supporters. Madness.
This is the way forward imo. The ref's have a very hard job judging whether it's a dive or a foul. Making it a sending off for a dive would result in too many dodgy reds being given imo. Get a panel to judge every game for dives and hand out bans if a dive is proved!
For me, it's a little like the introduction of goal line technology, whereby you either accept the flawed judgement of the officials in the interests of letting the match flow, or you interrupt games in order ensure critical decisions are correct. Whilst clearly the former is more attractive, at least with the latter those sinned against would reap the benefits. The problem with retrospective punishments is that, whilst clearly a ban is to the detriment of both the player and his club, it is also to the benefit of that team's opponents whilst the ban is in place, rather than to the benefit of the team that was wronged. A player that dives to win a penalty to win a game may subsequently be banned for (say) six games, but the outcome of the match cannot be reversed. If he is a key player, then his team is weakened for those six matches, which are potentially against direct rivals (for relegation or whatever) of the wronged team. If its a cup tie in which the dive took place, then that's it as far as the wronged team is concerned. If there was some way that a fourth official could quickly replay critical decisions without holding up play for too long it would get my vote. Perhaps a referee could be given (say) up to 3-4 referrals in each match and his overall performance and suitability to officiate be also judged on his use of these referrals and the calls he makes for himself? Surely, with all the money thrown at football these days, and the technology now available, this would it be too difficult or intrusive to implement?
The problem here is that at OT ManU will always get the benefit of doubt from refs.......According to the Sunday Times report the ref was put in a "horrible position" with the 2nd challenge and it inferred that he bottled it by giving Utd a penalty... the alternative was to book young again for diving and send him off and quiet frankly that will never happen at OT.....
....that would have been a much needed wake-up call for everyone, one it appears that even David Moyes would have supported.
