Cardiff City host Tottenham Hotspur at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday 22nd September 2013 (KO 16:00) in the 5th round of the 2013-14 Premier League season.

Cardiff come into the match in 10th place in the table on 5 points with Spurs in 2nd place on 9 points.

This will be the 53rd time the two teams have met and the first time in the Premier League. The last meeting was in the FA Cup in 2007.

Cardiff City were founded as Riverside AFC in 1899. In 1908, the club changed their name to Cardiff City and moved to Ninian Park two years later. They joined the Southern League Second Division shorty afterwards. The Bluebirds won promotion to the SL First Division for season 1913-14 and ended the 1914-15 season in third place before football was suspended for WW1.

Cardiff spent one more season in the Southern League before joining the Football League Division Two in 1920-21, when they finished as runners-up and won promotion to Division One.

The first meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at Ninian Park in August 1921 resulted in a 1-0 win for Spurs with Jimmy Banks scoring the winner. Spurs won the game at White Hart Lane 4-1 a week later with Tommy Clay, Andy Thompson (2) and Jimmy Dimmock all scoring.

The first FA Cup meeting came in March 1922 with Spurs drawing 1-1 in Cardiff and winning the replay 2-1. To date, the clubs have played six FA Cup games with Spurs winning three, two games drawn and Cardiff winning once.

The clubs met regularly during the 1920s and early 1930s, including two seasons in Division Two. Two matches were played during World War Two in March 1941 with Spurs winning the War Cup game 3-2 at Ninian Park after a 3-3 draw at White Hart Lane.

The clubs met for three seasons in Division Two in the 1940s with Spurs winning five of the six matches.

From 1952 to 1962, Spurs and Cardiff played 14 matches in Division One with 6 wins for Spurs, 4 draws and 4 wins for Cardiff. At the end of the 1961-62 season, Cardiff City were relegated and only returned to the Top Flight for season 2013-14.

Tottenham drew 0-0 at Cardiff in the Second Division in September 1977 and won the game at White Hart Lane 2-1 in Juanuary 1978 with Scottish striker John Duncan scoring both goals.

The only Football League Cup match the clubs have contested came in October 2002 with Teddy Sheringham scoring at the Lane.

The most recent meeting came in the FA Cup 3rd Round in January 2007 with the clubs drawing 0-0 in Cardiff and Spurs winning the replay 4-0 with goals from Aaron Lennon, Robbie Keane, Steed Malbranque and Jermain Defoe.

During the summer 2013 transfer window, Spurs central defender Steven Caulker moved to Cardiff City for a reported £9,000,000.

Overall, Spurs have won 28, Cardiff have won 11 and 13 of the 52 matches between the two clubs have been drawn.

Yeah he does them for all our league games and some cup and European games too.

Hoping we can play like we did against Norwich yesterday but we're still settling players in so are bound to be inconsistent. Our defence has been very good so far and if they can keep another cleansheet and we can knick a goal I'd take that all day.

I guess we'll remain unchanged or perhaps start Lamela ahead of Townsend, any idea how you guys will be lining up? I was hoping Kim might've gotten me a few points in my FF team, I enjoyed watching him last season and thought if he didn't get hacked down so much in the Prem that he'd make more of an impact.

Yes, I've researched and written-up these Match Histories for every club Spurs have played.

You can find the Woolwich Wanderers one here...

Quite a few have crossed over to the dark side , after the William Gallas affair I was thinking that only a handful had dared to move previouly <ok>

Yeah, it's not that uncommon but it is rare for us to sign a player directly from them or vice versa.

Have you lads forgiven your club for selling us Caulker yet? He's slotted in really well and even had the privilege of wearing the captains armband yesterday.

I think this could be our hardest home game this season.

Haha, yeah. Still irks a bit but apparently he wanted to leave and wasn't really rated by AVB. I still think he'll become a quality player but at least we managed to get in another centreback in the end, it was worrying having only 3 for awhile.

I don't think I'll ever agree with the decision but if AVB gets us a trophy this season then all will be forgiven.

Caulker was third or fourth choice central defender at Spurs behind players like Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson.

He wanted guaranteed first team football, which AVB simply wasn't able to promise him just yet.

In effect, we swapped Caulker for Romanian captain Vlad Chiriches and made about a million quid on the deal.

I hate Cardiff v Spurs games. Cardiff being my home club (well from 1969 anyway) and Spurs being the club I followed from afar since the Double Season. I will have to do what I have done the 3 times I have seen the fixture, shut up and try to enjoy the positives from both sides.

So far 1 - 0 to each (including the Sayer winner game mentioned by Malky) and a 0 - 0 draw.

Looking forward to seeing how Spurs' new players shape up. I think Malky will adopt the same tactics as our first 2 home games although this could come unstuck if Spurs have their positive hats on.

My first City game as a 10 year old was the cup win v spurs in 77 (hence the name) I would take another 1-0 Sunday.

Possibly so other than he should have given our Gerrard a second chance with his penalty. <doh>

To be honest it all seems a bit of a haze now but that could just be my dementia.

I remember him sending 2 of our players off when we beat leeds 1-0 at Ninian Park a few years ago.
