Thing with the pen was, he asked the linesman for help linesman couldn't give him any so he gave a pen anyway. If he was 100% certain it was a pen, why ask your assistant? If he wasn't 100% sure, he should never have given it.

Also, why was Sagna not sent off. Ignoring the fact he should have played advantage, surely it was the most obviously denying of a goal scoring opportunity you'll ever see! The guy actually then went and scored when him, keeper & defender didn't know the whistle was blown <doh>

So Chelsea are now your rivals & we're a 'nothing' team?

Oh dear, that splat back down to terra firma really is going to hurt you, as you're orbiting the planet, you deluded dolt.

It was a good match to watch. Mourinho was right when he said that Chelsea were wasteful in front of goal. But that was your first your first win of the season. Yes you played hard for it but you could (maybe should) have lost it. Having said that, you didn't appear to miss Fellani too much.

I enjoyed the game. In fairness, they had 2 or 3 gilt edged chances to score before we took the lead, but in the entire game Howard only made one quality save (from Ramires).

Barry was immense, he gave a master class in how to play DM last night, one of the best Everton debuts I can ever remember tbh. We've not had a player in that role, of that type, since Carsley in his pomp. Barry could turn out to be one of the best pieces of business in the last window, very astute from Martinez.

Always said Barry is a good player who was vastly undervalued at City in their team of wanna be galacticos. He was the one who let the other players do their stuff and let the useless Toure amble around, never defending. Great signing for Everton. City will miss him this season.

Agree on Barry, but Naismith really stood out aswell throughout the game.
Really impressed by his contribution overall, not just his goal.

At worst by Tuesday morning you'll still be at least 2 points behind us - and that will only be after 4 games!! Don't be bitter and join the Bitters <laugh>

Barry made a smart move, might play his way into England starting 11 with more performances like that. If you want to show your quality as a DM don't sit on the bench for title contenders who enjoy majority possession, better to keep Everton top half of the table <ok>

The thing with defensive midfielders is that in games like that when the team is under the cosh for most of the game they look good. What's he going to be like when you're playing against Norwich at home and you need McCarthy or Barry to do something to win you the game? That's the real test for the partnership imo.

When we had Lucas & Mascherano in a pairing together they were great defensively but offensively we often struggled to score & break teams down because we had 2 midfielders that weren't really contributing in an attacking sense to the team.

Barry sitting will allow the likes of Barkley free reign the get forward. McCarthy isn't really a holding player, neither are Gibson or Osman who are the alternative partners for him.

Deffo. Don't get me wrong, I thought Rafa was nuts for wanting to swap him for Alonso, but I actually think he's still a better DM than Fellatio. Better passer, without a doubt.

Both us and Chelsea will finish at least 10 points above Everton this season under a new Manager.

Chavs were robbed yesterday. For the first time in my life I felt sorry for them.

  16. I understand these three...

...picking up on this comment, I'm just a bit surprised none of them twisted it ever so slightly. If Everton are a nothing team but also a rival, wouldn't that make us a nothing team...?

Everton are the nothing team. Chelsea are the rivals.

  18. But in reality, we are closer to Everton than we are Chelsea. Of course, that is just my opinion but I'm pretty sure you'll get more on that side of the fence than not <ok>

    Table says otherwise.

    Then -> Now;

Everton: Decade of stability with the man who went on to manage the league champions -> Relegated manager changing style of play
Liverpool: Transition with new owners and managers -> most settled team out of last year's top 7

Last year Everton overachieved and with all the benefit of us having no striker until January still only finished above us by the difference of our goal against them being wrongly disallowed. They will not be anywhere near as close to us this season.

  20. That's based on a full season yet you're prepared to say we are rivals with Chelsea after three games <doh>
