U21s have their first game of the season tomorrow evening against Glentoran???? After two seasons of trying to get a work permit, we may well see Armin Hodzic playing for us. Very good player in my opinion
There was frustration for Liverpool U18s as they lost 2-1 to Arsenal in their opening game of 2013-14 in London on Friday morning. After an impressive pre-season hopes were high for the Academy side going into the game, but a trip to Arsenal was always going to be a tough opening fixture. The Gunners took the lead after 21 minutes when Dallison met a well worked free-kick to fire home, but Liverpool deservedly levelled on 42 minutes when Nathan Burke fired a superb goal from 25-yards out. Five minutes after the restart Liverpool felt they should have had a penalty when Connor Randall was fouled but the appeal was turned down by the referee. The home side then took the lead after 69 minutes when Maitland-Niles fired home. U18s coach Mike Garrity told Liverpoolfc.com: "We did well and it could have gone either way to be honest. "The only time Arsenal stretched us in the second half was when they got the goal and we could easily have had a penalty. "Sometimes you don't get what you deserve in football but there were lots of positives for us to take." Liverpool team: Ryan Crump, Connor Randall, David Roberts, Dan Cleary, Tom Brewitt, Nathan Burke, Ryan Kent, Adam Phillips (Louis Robles), Daniel Trickett-Smith (Darius Whaldron), Sheyi Ojo, Sam Hart. Unused subs: Andy Firth, Jack Alexander, Matthew Virtue.
Be interesting to see this team this year. They are very young I believe as the u21s are well below the age group themselves. Should improve during the season. Very hard game to start with
Trickett Smith and Ojo are the standouts for the U18's I presume. We'll see about them this season and in a couple they'll be playing for the U21's - seeing where they can go in their careers. I feel our academy regressed since Rafa left, the Spanish touch was lost. Our U21's had a marvelous season a few years ago (2 I believe) and yet it doesn't seem like many can make the step up. Good to see Rodgers reshuffling the coaching staff - As long as Borrell stays on we have a decent platform. It's a shame we lost Pep Segura who also was a decent coach.
Liverpool U21 team to face the Leicester City U21's. Ward, Sama, Kelly, Jones, McLaughlin, Lussey, Rossiter, Dunn, Peterson, Morgan, Teixeira. Subs: Mersin, Brannagan, Baio, Maguire.
Bloody awful defending there. Texiara looks fragile to say the least. Good on the ball but by god he needs to strengthen up.
Sergi Canos got a hatrick this evening for Spain u17s, havent seen the goals, havent seen much of the player, but he is being talked about as a gem for the future..(worrying.) Tex has gone on a month loan to Brentford
Disapointed in the website here. Didnt mention that Jack Robinson got an assist. An Ngoo did actually get the last 6 minutes.
For anyone who cares I also have a little update on former Liverpool legend Dani Pacheco. Played his second game for AD Alcoron the other day and Scored Assisted and Hockey assisted in a great performance from the young lad. YNWA Dani!!! I think you and I were amongst the only ones that really liked the lad. He's up there with Insua for me as someone who was unfairly treated by the club. Both of them are getting on with their careers though which is good to see! Insua is on the bench at Atletico Madrid and has been for a few seasons, but this season looks like he will get a chance. Hopefully Dani gets noticed or promoted this year. He deserves to play at the top somewhere.
I agree, I hate to see talent wasted, (mainly because ive done a good job of wasting my own..lol) I think Dani will be in La Liga next year. Either for Alcoron (who are looking good) or he will get spotted. Can score can assist and can pick some amazing passes. Think his time with us will have taught him alot and prepared him well for a good career. I think there are a couple of us dani fans hiding out there, just not as vocal as us..lol
To be fair Dani spent a long time in and around the first team squad and produced little. Love the guys heart and love for the team but was never going to be a first team player for Liverpool in my opinion, How is Suso doing on his loan?
Not too bad. Starting every game in La Liga. Is playing quite a forward role, (wide forward) which isnt necessairily his best position. Has provided two direct assists and a couple of hockey assists. Seems to be a key player for Almeria. Think a goal will help him kick on again
The pass that leads to the assist. In hockey this is a vital pass as they only have a few before they score. Its like a secondary assist, which is important for Suso. It means he's developing his attacking play well. And yes, Suso is on loan. Pacheco has left the club after terminating his contract. I don't think he was ever in or around the first team squad though. Always got overlooked for Downing and Assaidi. Before that Woy didn't trust him, and Rafa left before he could properly give him a chance.
As others have mentioned, Suso has been looking good in La Liga, and has been a key component of Almeria's attack. He's getting on the ball, dribbling, shown good range of passing.
