Despite what I said above I don't care too much about Mickey, though the look on his face with his PL medal after his minimal contribution was annoying.
However, I agree with crumpet that he's a bloody awful pundit -his monotonous drone is really irritating and he rarely shows any valuable insight into the game.

Going to Madrid... fine... I can see how that was a career move.

Going to Newcastle... well... he had a choice to come to us... better for his "career" but chose nuke... fine he did it for the money.

Going to Mancs to be 4th choice striker... that's just a scum bag move and totally disrespectful to LFC. He can't saying that was a "career" choice being a nobody in a big club.

Money... sure... but just like you're scum if you make money conning people... being a telemarketer... door to door salesman... work at one of those short-term loan places taking advantage of people in bad spots with usury... its a pretty lousy way to make money...

...and Owen was already loaded and set for life... unlike some footballers sounds like he has been investing money instead of wasting it.

Sorry but MO lost me at MU... before then could forgive him... that was just an unnecessary two fingers up at the fans.

He could have played a big role at a mud table club... been respected... earned almost as much money... and furthered his career as a captain or a leader perhaps.

... instead he went to polish Rooneys shoes and thumb off the club he was developed at.

  4. I don't dislike Owen either. He made the decision he felt he had to. He said from a young age that he wanted to go abroad, who wouldn't go to Madrid? (I said the same about Bale last week!) When he came back, he didn't get the option to re-join us (although, in hindsight, I'm glad too purely because of injuries). I don't blame him for going to Man Utd either, it was his last chance at winning trophies and a elusive Premier League title. How involved he was in that is a different matter but he had to work hard to get there in the first place.

What I disliked was the claim that he carried Houllier's team. He didn't! IMO, he had limited ability but was very good at a couple of attributes and used the extremely well to his advantage. He was never going to sustain a long career without changing his game and he lacked the ability to be able to play differently.

Drivel. He wanted to come to us but Newcastle offered £17m, twice what Liverpool sold him for just a year before, and Rafa -RIGHTLY - wouldn't pay it. Check your basic facts feller.

Basic facts? Basic fact is footballers aren't slaves.

He could have refused to go to Newcastle. We made a bid just not as high.

If he refused to play for nuke they couldn't force him to. Madrid wanted to sell him... we were next highest bidder... that we know of.

He chose to accept Newcastle rather than force Madrid to listen to our bid. Prob bc nuke offered more money.

may I offer my expert opinion here.

    1. steve mcmanaman did get a rough enough ride from us. he stabbed the club in the back but parry had his eyes wdie shut and let the contract run down to january and while mcmanaman was all lovey to them he was talking to real.

    2. Michael own TRIED to do the same damned thing. he'd lined up the real deal while talking out of his backside about new deals. Rafa had the contacts to be looked after thats all. He basically sold owen for nothing to real as real had a good relationship with him. had it been houllier that lot would have let it run down to january. I was delighted that capello saw through him

    3. Own had a choice with newcastle. He courted us.. so if you think thats ok fine. We would have paid 10mil maybe and thank god sheapard was that stupid to offer that much for a crock. Rafa hadhis arm twisted to sign him frankly.. I actually don't mind him going to newkie given the fee and wages probably given. By then I was done with him of course.

    4. Utd? pretty sure he would have made a bit more someplace else. However i see it as really being a little bollox. he knew he'd maybe be at best a bit part and he had to know precisely what he'd get by doing it.

So I am personally one that's not had any time at all for the so and so since 2004 when he left and if he wanted forgiveness he would have got it before he went for newkie. I'm glad he didnt come then I think he's a mercenary and always was one a s evidence by where he was when gerrard and carragher's testimonials were happening.... commentry duty? bollox... even robbie folwer could trun out for the reds at gerrards. Owen was "meant to be a best friend" Chuff sake rooney had more chance getting a welcome turning out for gerrard's.

    now finally.

I hope you guys remember under houllier the opening day announcement and huge cheer as the little bollox signed a new deal. He got 100k per week back then and milked the club for all its worth. Carrerr moves? nah look at christian eriksen for how a guy should act. The fact is everyone on not 606 will end up realizing the reasons why this season I was right about that kid being the real deal.

Owen holds a similar position to Torres in my estimation. I was fairly pissed off when they both left, but could see neither were the player they were.

Owen left to sit on the bench for Madrid and sit on the physio table at Newcastle and Man United. Similar to Torres if he had gone on to great things the resentment would be much much higher, but hating either would be like hating a sick puppy.

On a side note i was angered when Macca left, but the club should really have acted sooner, either new contract or sold. In his defense the lad had carried the team for a number of seasons and we have only just replaced him possibly with Suarez. He also changed his game when he joined Madrid and became a much more rounded and in my opinion better player.

**** it i always loved him and always will.
