Getting this back on topic, and away from the bitter and insignificant mancs, one of my favourite fall-outs from Istanbul was the Chavski message board, and how they ran the full range of emotions that night
Actually the quote was "the best club in the country" utd's standing in the 50's was obviously better than ours at that time. http://www.shankly.com/article/2517 So your wrong U19R
After the hangover subsided I spent hours laughing looking back over all the threads from that night.
Pepe it's in his signature. I cannot change that. I would suggest not taking the bait though, or maybe change your signature if you have to.
No its not his quote is accurate, just becuase the words and context are wrong, that does not mean the quote is wrong, No NO NO!!!!!!
Your a knobhead. "world" "English 1st division." Typical manc with delusions of grandeur your club could'nt win a league title 40 years until around the time Shanks made the quote. and either way you look at it your wrong, and shankly laid the foundations at LFC that lead to achievements your still chasing.
Correct you are. i will change the word world for country. Not that it changes much though but i am all for learning from my mistakes.
If the same question was asked of the Govan Gob when utd came calling he would have said "why is mr bojangles leaving" even during his days at Aberdeen the very mention of LFC burned his head out.
In 1980 AF was very very excited to meet the legend that was Bill Shankly. He held him in the highest regard alongside Sir Matt and jock Stein. He regarded these men as gods. Your club he does not respect. Bill Shankly he most certainly does and Shankly would respect Fergie now if he was still with us. Make no mistake, Shankly would regard Fergie as one of his sort of managers. A dynasty builder.
There was plenty of "respect" between the clubs until drunken arse took over at OT. dont get the dislike between the fans of both clubs mixed up with the respect that existed between Liverpool FC and Man Utd FC the old soak stoked the fires of hate as soon as he arrived at utd because we tonked and humilated his little scottish club after he told the press they would knock us out.
http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/52525-SAF-and-his-quotes.?p=534861#post534861 You will enjoy some of these I am sure. I have read quotes from both Shankly and Fergie today and I think we can all agree these two men had a fantastic way with words haha.
They did have a lot in common. Both are/were fantastic man managers. However Shanks was never a bully that threw strops when he didn't get his own way. Shanks although he did dismiss the opposition it was only to motivate his players,he did the reverse when his team won. An example of this was in 1968,Shanks went through the Man United team, and said ''Alex Stepney..can't catch a cold,Tony Dunne..farts move faster,Nobby Styles...blind as a bat'' and on he went until he got to Best,Law and Charlton and he said ''If you can't beat 3 players, you're all dropped''.When Liverpool won 2-0,He went back into the dressing room and said ''Well lads you've just beaten the best team in Europe''. He did something similar with a very young Kevin Keegan in 1971 when he had a go at Bobby Moore,He said to Kevin Keegan ''That Bobby Moore has a gammy ankle and his head is full of dandruff and he looks like he's after being out on the beer''.Keegan scored and at the end of the game Shanks said ''That Bobby Moore is one fine player''.
I just dont think you understand fergie. He creates an 'us' v 'them' mentality and its served us so well.
