Parker would have his uses in away PL games as someone has said, but thats about it. I agree to an extent with luke in that he's not "top4" standard, however to judge his time at Chelsea is harsh. Makelele wasn't likely to be dropped was he!, when he did get a chance he broke his foot. This part of luke's comment, as proved here, was poorly researched, or an oafish and clumsy wum attempt...not sure which.
How many of Man Utd's players are "top 4 standard"? Wes Brown, Michael Owen, Carrick, Anderson, Smalling, O'Shea, Evans, Fletcher, Obertan, Gibson, Kuszczak, Bebe...? This is the team that won the league.
To be fair, PNP, Anderson and Carrick played rather well this year. Mikel is the one player that confounds me as to how he always gets picked. I've not seen anything from him in a long time that suggests he's good enough for anything more than a bottom half team. As for Parker, his move to Chelsea came too soon and has been said he was competing for a place against the best in the World in his position. He's experienced and a quality player so of course he'd be a great signing for us. However I wouldn't want him to be getting chances ahead oh Modric, Hudd and Sandro I can't see him being happy to be 4th choice.
Who would Parker replace in the squad? Jenas, probably. Would that improve the squad? I'd have thought so. So players are top 4 standard if they play regularly for a top 4 team? Almunia played 118 games for Arsenal in the three seasons from 2007-2010. They must be? Apparently not.
Well done for agreeing with me luke. I said he was not top4 std initially, so no need for paragraph 2. and describing his time as you have in paragraph 1, indicates a harsh period of time to judge his ability. Up till then he'd shown great promise at Charlton, I made my comment based on what everyones knowledge 'at the time' would have been. You on the otherhand slate a particular period in his career with the benefit of hindsight. Going by PNP's list, I'm surprised we're not jousting with united for his signature!...read what your bretheren think about him "I'd love to see him in red" http://community.manutd.com/forums/p/108695/999531.aspx
You weren't talking about winners medals, but top 4, Lidls. You're changing the criteria now, because your old criteria no longer works. Samir Nasri has no medals. Darron Gibson has several, yet he can't spell his first name correctly. Who's the better player? Palacios is probably leaving, as is Kranjcar and Rose is still young enough not to count, by the way.
So after all that you actually agree with my point? Parker isn't the best player in the world, but if we keep Modric, Sandro and van der Vaart then we don't have any space in the middle of the park for a first XI player. If we offload the likes of Jenas, O'Hara and Palacios then we need someone to take their place in the squad and who will do a good job, when required. I honestly think that having Parker and Huddlestone playing in the Europa League, domestic cups and as back-up would be pretty decent. Who would be a realistic and acceptable alternative?
Am I making this hard to understand or something? John O'Shea: 5 Premier League title medals, an FA Cup, three League Cups and a Champions League, with nearly 400 appearances. Top 4 starter? No. Top 4 player? ....
To be honest, I think Parker may have played his way out of a move to a PL club on Saturday An average player at best, would rather us turn our attentions to Diarra
PNP if we are to sign Parker he will almost certainly be on the bench for all our PL games If there are no injuries, I just dont think Parker is good enough for even our bench I think Diarra has showed his class in the PL, not so much at Madrid granted, but he is a quality option to have in my opinion
Bruce and Adams were far better defenders than O'Shea, Lidls. If you're actually serious, then I really hope that you've been drinking. All day. Diarra's a very good player RRP, but he'd demand a place in the first XI and probably break our wage structure, too. I don't think that's what we need at the moment.
Fair points PNP, it was only an idea of course, not like I have any influence in our signings But for once Harrys past dealings could help us attract Diarra, but agree, wages will always be a problem, not only with him We don't really know what our system will be next season, it all depends on who we bring in and if anyone leaves
