What made you all change your minds about Adebayor? I remember quite a few of you arguing against me when I said that I didn't rate him or want him at Spurs in the first place, now you've all turned full circle. I still say Defoe should go and we get another striker and left back in, then we are ready to challenge for the top spot.
Thor no offence but you have been saying Defoe has been finished for years now! yet you can't bring yourself to give the guy some credit, you should realise hes a great player to have in the squad, but no one believes he should be first choice. As for Adebayor, I wasn't keen on us signing him, yet he changed my view when Redknapp was manager and when we had the chance to sign him for 5 million, it seemed to be a no brainer yet now I realise Adebayor was never going to be interested in carrying on his form and the move was all about the cash, as if another club came along and offered him more money, he would have gone. SO yes you was right about Adebayor, but wrong about Defoe!
ALL turned full circle ?? I have repeatedly said that my one and only argument with Redknapp, was that he brought Adebayor to the club. He should never have been allowed to walk through our main gates, never mind kick a football for us.
i have not turned at all,i never rated him from before he joined and was dismayed when we signed him,but as i looks like we are stuck with him, until at least Jan,we should get him up to speed ,just in case
Didn't mean to bore Boss but no I cannot give Defoe any credit because of howling misses like at City when we came back from 2-0 and should have won 2-3 at the death. There has been other clangers too. He started off well last season and then faded which is what use to us? We need him to be strong throughout the season especially at the end but for me he just doesn't do that. tots, Spurcat my apologies.
This is why hes a great squad player, as he has his uses but form fades when first choice over a season, yet Defoe has played a big role in our "success" over the years, be that getting into europe or high league finishes and you can't take that away from him.
There aren't many strikers out there better than Defoe as a "2nd option"/ squad player. To have someone like him on the bench is a massive asset, he's better than most Prem team's 1st choice strikers. Lets not forget that prior to Bale's heroics last season, Defoe was the one carrying the team with his goals. Plus, like Boss said, Defoe has been instrumental in our rise. Jemain Defoe IS a yido!
You'd want both Defoe and Adebayor in your squad if you could get the best from them. Defoe is a clinical finisher; Adebayor is a classical centre forward who can hold the ball up, bring other players into the game and score goals. But they both seem to be fragile characters whose form is like a Curate's egg. SAF would have sorted the pair out. Potentially they are a top drawer combination up front.
"If you could get the best from them." "Potentially." Statements like that are a touch meaningless LDL with no offence meant to you. Ifs and potentials do not win matches.
I always thought Adebayor had a touch of Andrea Bocelli about him, considering the chances he misses.
Yes, but that's what they are. Consistency is the key to success in any sport. Defoe is a very good player who will be remembered for what he could have been.
Tottenham is his flagship team and he's sailed in lesser vessels like West Ham and Portsmouth which for me devalues his CV a bit. Anyway I've said my piece on Defoe but I take the points and thanks for them. Lawro has us down for a 2-0 win which if so would kick start our season. With their recent record at WHL I'd be happy with any win but any more than 2-0 would be a huge bonus. We didn't beat them in three attempts last season did we? I'm just wondering whether this will be one of those frustrating matches where we expect to win easily but may have to wait a while for the first goal.
I want to comment on this even though it's a couple of days old now. We Dutch have player very consistently in the past few years. Consistently playing like crap that is. We may have qualified for the WC but well be fortunate to make it through the group stage. The Belgians on the other hand should have no problem making it to the quarter- or even semi-finals. They thrashed us Dutch last year in a friendly in August. 4-2.
Alright Cove. Ive always viewed the Dutch as being highly talented but lacking that consistent level of performance to match their ability, although not having a strong defence has hinded the Dutch. Belgian IMO won't be much different, they will look classy, have great individual talent, exciting players, like the Dutch, but I don't believe they will fully furfill their potential.
but getting back to the game, Norwich are going to defend deep, and hit us on the counter. Are we going to break them down? not likely judging by previous performances so have gone for a draw but won't be surprised if we win by the odd goal.
Norwich beat us last year didn't they? I'm a little nervous about this one especially as half our team are new. Luckily I'm going to the rugby today to take my mind off of things - although even the Chiefs played horrendously opening game of season....
Villas-Boas has a pretty poor record against Norwich as our manager. Drew his first game after Huddlestone was incorrectly sent off and we conceded a late equaliser, then somehow lost a League Cup game which we utterly dominated, again to a late goal after a fairly late leveler. Bale's immense solo goal rescued a point at Carrow Road and we could've nicked it, but I'm hoping for a drastic improvement today. Our last performance against them under Redknapp was a horror show, too. Holt bullied a clearly injured Ledley King and our forward line was predictably ineffective, as Defoe and Saha was a poor choice.
Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose; Paulinho, Sandro; Lennon, Holtby, Townsend; Soldado. If no Lennon then start Lamela or Chadli. I know I shouldn't be but I'm very confident today, COYS
I'll be busy helping a model friend of mine as she opens her shop in central London today. No, it isn't The Thorstvedt...
Us Dutch never lived up to expectations, hence we only won a European Cup so far and missed out on a WC in three finals. But if you want a preview on the Oranje team for next years WC: I had a bit of a rant here: http://thecovereport.sportsblog.com/post/202150/the_world_cup_qualification_a.html Hope that helps with making any bets next year.
