Charlie Austin is determined to end his QPR goal drought when Rangers host Birmingham City this weekend.

Summer signing Austin scored 28 goals in 40 appearances for Burnley last season and 45 in 90 games since moving to Turf Moor in January 2011.

However, after finding the net just two minutes into his QPR debut against Exeter City in the League Cup on August 6, he has drawn a blank in his last five matches.

The Hoops face two home games in the space of five days against Birmingham City and Brighton & Hove Albion, and Austin is confident of finally getting off the mark in the league.

“The goals will come, I’m getting the chances, and the main thing is that we’re winning,” said Austin. “It’s just getting that first goal out of the way and hopefully the rest will follow. It doesn’t matter how they go in – they all count.

“As a centre-forward you just want to get that one over the line. I’ve hit the crossbar a couple of times, had a few chances, hopefully I’ll get one.

“You have to assess your all-round performances. I feel that I have been playing well and working hard. Obviously I would like to score a couple more goals, just like anyone would.

“I went through a stage of scoring every time I went out on the pitch [at Burnley]. Hopefully that will happen for me after the international break.”

Austin is desperate to reach the Premier League, after a proposed move to Hull City fell through at the last minute earlier in the summer.

The two clubs had agreed a fee for the 24-year-old, but Austin failed a medical because of an old knee injury and was forced to return to Burnley before making the switch to QPR.

He added: “I had an operation on the knee when I was 15, but never had any trouble with it since at Swindon and Burnley.

“I knew I had to get back to Burnley, do pre-season and work hard. Everyone there has been brilliant for me.

“They welcomed me back and I got my head down and got on with it. Hopefully I will get to the Premier League one day – hopefully with QPR this season.”

It will come - the guy is a proven finisher. Can still see him getting 20+ this season with the service he will soon be getting from Carroll and Phillips.

It will come for him. As he said though more important the team keeps on winning. If we click like i think we can we will be deserved favs this season. 13pts from 15pts and we havent played that well yet, tells you someting about the levels in this league. Still reckon it will be us and Wigan.

Wouldn't quite go that far Seagull, we ain't had a 20+ man since Sir Les nearly 20 years ago.

Still, you'd never know. Stranger things have happened.

I think getting right behind him on saturday with some vocal support will help his confidence. Looking forward to seeing some exciting football after England's dull performance. And some goals.

Good self assessment, his all round game has been good, proper centre forward, look at his role in Clint's goal at Leeds. Goals will come.

Having seen many grand failures in the striker department down the years I'm taking nothing for granted. Sometimes it all comes together for a couple of years when a squad and a system coincide that ideally suits the style of a front man. But change anything and the magic can sometimes disappear for long periods. Torres is the most notorious example in recent years of course. At QPR we had Adel scoring at will in Warnock's set up that allowed him space to work with outside the box but we all know how that ended once a new generation of players and different tactics were deployed.

I really hope it works out for Austin but please don't tell me it's guaranteed.

They will come, hes been getting in the right areas and has a good all round game, contrast that with Zamora and think how many chances has he had or set up?

Hes probably trying a bit too hard and putting too much pressure on himself, Im sure the floodgates will open once he gets the monkey off his back.

Wait, was that a positive post from me?

What type of monkey is it? A spider monkey he should be able to cope with, but a baboon is a different story.

This game against Birmingham would have always been potential a 'banana skin' in the past but I think the squad we now have will overcome these tricky home fixtures. Like I said in a previous post Harry et al. have done really well transfer wise. I can't wait for Saturday........typing from the people's republic of Mecca aka Marble Arch.

Trouble is with Carroll was the massive price he was sold for, he was never that good. Id have him for the right price.

A confidence player, who needs service in and around the box. He's not got any real pace so more of a poacher. Talking about 'goals will come' always makes me nervous. Talking about not scoring yet only puts more pressure on himself. Just get on with it Charlie and stop 'thinking' about it.
