O'Leary got sacked for narrowly missing out on Chumps Lge ... that meant Publicity Pete's ridiculous dealings were exposed because he budgeted for the extra money. Ferdinand wasn't adequately replaced, and the Bowyer / Woodgate fiasco took its toll on the squad. O'Leary was still doing a great job, but Ridsdale was acid at missing out on Chimps Lge so he fired O'Leary. We all know what happened next ... that crook Venables stepped in with a million pound get out clause, and proceeded to try his damndest to get the sack and his golden handshake (constantly picking Jacob Burns, getting rid of Dacourt, etc). Ridsdale really was thick!!
Wouldnt make any difference, England dire as always. Football only our third or fourth national sport anyway whereas as you lot are supposed to have invented it
I know the history Billy. We were top going into the new year, lost in the cup to Cardiff(which should have IMO been replayed) and that was the start of our misfortunes. O'Leary was spoilt, he was the man that had at least 4 to 6 forwards at one time. He couldn't play them all so some got frustrated. When people look at the history books you won't see the nearly moments, but you will see(sorry for repeating myself) that Wilko won the 2nd div as champs and the old 1st div and the Charity shield(if that counts). Wilko took this club from near bottom of Div 2 to the top of div 1.
Maybe not but already looking forward to another glorious Germany England penalty shoot out and usual result
