New John Byrne Interview by Ron Norris on QPRnet http://qprnet.com/index.php/interviews-2/int-players/278-the-john-byrne-interview
Thanks for that mate. Along with Gary Bannister, one of my all time favourite players. Even follows me on twitter (along with the rest of his 'fans'), and also takes the time out to answer questions and acknowledge us all. Seems like a genuinely nice bloke and proud to say i got to cheer on his silky skills.
I remember a match against Oxford where they stole the lead with a goal that must have been 2 yards offside and held on desperately until almost the last kick when Byrne singlehandedly beat the whole of their defence before clipping the ball home. Magical goal. Bannister and Byrne - what a partnership
Remembering THAT partnership almost brings tears to my eyes mate. Really happy times following the R's
I lived abroad for most of the 80's, only saw him play in 87-88, but always struck me as a proper QPR player.
Nice bloke. I friended him on Facebook and he is very down to earth. He recently posted a picture of a caravan he was about to stay in for a few days and said he doubted Gareth bale would be staying in a similar place!
Obviously my hero. I remember being in the loft and he came on as a sub after being out injured. He scored a one yard tap in and ran towards us shouting "I'm back". Legend.
Probably my favourite QPR player had amazing skill & tricks, if just a little more pace would have been top drawer.
That's why I loved the bloke - because he can drop his shoulder on the short side and get past defenders no but seriously, he scored some beauties. Full legend.
